In addition to being the starting point for the climb to Sugarloaf Mountain, Urca neighborhood is home to other attractions such as Forte de São João (St. John Fort) and Praia Vermelha (Red beach), one of the most beautiful beaches in the city.
Hike until the top Morro da Urca, and see native trees such as redwood and fig trees. Wild animals can also often be seen, such as marmosets and birds Tiê-blood – bird symbol of the Atlantic Forest.
From the top of Morro da Urca, you will take the Sugarloaf Cable Car and go up to Sugarloaf mountain, where you have a 360º view of the city.
After the visit, stroll around the historic district and finish your tour with an authentic Carioca happy hour at Mureta da Urca with a spectacular view of Christ, the Redeemer, tasting a beer, and some of the famous Brazilian snacks, like pastel and empada.

5.00I do not usually praise good service as this is a minimum I’d expect when booking with specialized service providers, however I must say that Rio De Janeiro By Cariocas’ Team was formidable from day one! Renata handled our booking meticulously, going into the minus detail, so when we arrived to the Rio, we had no concern whatsoever, from pick up timing to the flow of our day. Monique (co-founder) was actually our guide for the day. She’s super fun, speaks very good English and super well informed. She was going out of her way to make sure we were 100% satisfied A big thank you to all the team of Rio De Janeiro By Cariocas! You guys made our trip memorable.

5.00I went back to Brazil for Christmas because I enjoyed it so much the first time. I used Rio de Janeiro by Cariocas to help me plan my trip, because the service was so good the first time, and the objective was to do new things that I missed out on last time. Monique put together another fun-filled, mixed itinerary including the Sugar loaf hiking, which wasn't difficult at all, and ended with incredible views of Rio from the top of Morro da Urca where we sat an enjoyed Caipirinha taking in the view. Other trips included a great samba night with the locals, scootering along Copacabana beach and great Brazilian Bbqs. Rio de Janeiro by Cariocas really take the hassle out of planning a trip and it is a pleasure to spend time with their guides, who are keen travellers themselves, speak great English and have lots of stories to share and know Rio inside out. I can't wait to come back for a 3rd time!! Thanks
