Communication was terrible. We heard nothing until I messaged them an hour or so before leaving. We were waiting at the pier and were told to wait for a car. I made it very clear we were already at the pier. 5 more minutes. 5 more minutes. We get in the car and drive around the block to the pier where we already were… The days activities were not adequately described and we disembarked after a mere 30 seconds on the boat to find a better tour (of which there are MANY). Viator is no help and overcharged as well. They said they would refund, but then denied after we left.

We paid the extra to guarantee that we would get to go on this trip but nevertheless I received messages trying to persuade me to change the date plus one that said we couldn't visit Rinca because of the sea conditions (I don't know how they could know this one day in advance). At the time I was without Internet access so only saw them on the day of the trip. All WhatsApp messages had been deleted at this point but I got emails via viator. When we arrived there were 6 local people and a child already on the boat. The guide Beng? hardly spoke to us but was chatting to the others. I can't say for sure but it seemed they might be his family as the child seemed very attached to him. Lunch was given to us far removed from the others on the boat. I was left to snorkel on my own whilst he yet again spent time with the "family". The rangers on Rinca were amazing and gave us lots of info about the komodo dragons. Our guide was nowhere to be seen. In fact the trip could have been great if we had had a guide but I think we were a hindrance to him. Lastly you took your life in your hands getting off the boat at the end of the tour because one slip and you would have been dead

I liked the tour. The guide Alex was excellent: very engaging, helpful, and knowledgeable. The first stop: Kelor Island. It is a small island. Many boats stop there mainly for lunch. The short and steep trail leads to the top of the island – good vista. Nice sandy beach with baby sharks (black tip). Few souvenir stalls and eateries. The next is Manjarite Beach – snorkeling spot. Snorkeling here is ok. Not spectacular. The next is a long ride to Rinca island. In our case, the ride took even lomger as the boat required some repairs. The island is very dramatic. We arrived at Rinca 10 min before they close at 4:30pm. Fortunately the crew probably called, so they were waiting for us. It turned out the delay was a blessing in disguise as we had a brand new 3 years old park for us only. The long wooden walkways, the new park center. We followed a ranger to the forest. We were lucky to see two Komodo lizards – one was a large male hiding from the sun in a walkway shadow. Another was a far smaller young female exploring territory, drinking from waterhole, demonstrating Jurassic Park poses for the cameras, etc. The last stop was by Kalong island. No landing, only standing and observing the bats night flight. Very impressive. Overall it is an excellent trip. I strongly recommend it.

This day trip was great. Rinca Island was not busy and we saw 6 Komodo Dragons. The boat crew were engaging and attentive. We finished the day off with an awesome sight of the bats flying out of the mangroves.
