Explore remote mountain villages on this 2- or 3-day adventure from Kutaisi! You’ll go off-road to reach one of Europe’s highest continuously inhabited villages — Ushguli, where around 200 people live year-round at 2,100 meters, cut off from the world each winter. Travel in a 4x4 along a spectacular mountain road, hike to the Shkhara Glacier, and stay overnight in Mestia. Next day will return to Kutaisi, expected return: approx. 7–8 PM (let us know if you need to be back by a specific time).
Please note: Accommodation is not included in the tour price. We recommend booking a hotel in Mestia, at walking distance from Seti Square — feel free to contact us for suggestions!

What To Expect

Kutaisi
We will leave Kutaisi in the morning for our beautiful trip to the mountains
Ushguli
Visit the 9th-century Lamaria Church, hike to Shkhara Glacier and take iconic photos of Ushguli from the Queen Tamar Castle viewpoint
Mestia
In the evening arrive to Mestia and spend overnight there.
Mestia - Hatsvali Lift - Mestia Museum - Enguri Dam - Kutaisi.
Mestia
We will wander in the old town of Mestia among Svan defense towers, listen to stories & legends about Svaneti.
Lets take ski lift from the center of Mestia town & enjoy beautiful panorama of Caucasian mountains. If ski lift wouldnt work, guide will drive up to the viewpoint.
Margiani's House Museum
On the way we will visit an Ethnographic house-museum or Mountaineering museum.
Kutaisi
After lunch we leave to Kutaisi, at night we will be back in Kutaisi

5.00Nice tour in the mountains. The road trip to Mestia was an experience on its own. Even if the weather was not ideal, our guide Jemali made the experience very cool. I appreciate his honesty when answering all the questions we had, which allowed us to get a better insight into Georgian culture, people, sports... Given the experience, we also chose the same company for another tour.

As expected it was a lot of time on the road, but Jemal was easy to talk with and we stopped here and there for all our needs or a nice photo. The places are definitely worth to visit and we felt in safe hands. Good organisation. Thank you very much!

5.00Going to Georgia without visiting the Svaneti region is like missing one of the most impressive sights in Georgia. This 2-day trip corresponded exactly to what we were looking for i.e. going to the Ushguli village (2100m altitude) via Lentekhi and the Zagari pass (2600m), and returning via Mestia, Enguri dam and Zugdidi. At first we thought we could do the trip on our own with a rented car, but it turned out that the road via Zagari pass is typically closed for general traffic at the end of September, and the same might apply to the road between Mestia and Ushguli. This means that by going on your own during mid-autumn or winter, you might not be able to go beyond Mestia (coming via Zugdidi) and thus you might miss the most impressive sights: Ushguli, Shkhara glacier (under Mt Shkhara, 5200m) and Zagari pass. The Enguri Dam (world's second highest concrete arch dam) is also worth the visit. We are very grateful to Mikhaeli, our driver and guide, who was super knowledgeable about the region's history and geography, in addition to being very friendly and helpful (e.g. indicating the best spots for photographs in Ushguli, where one can avoid the recent intrusive constructions that have partially affected this unique spot). The trip was well worth every penny that we paid. Big thanks to Mikhaeli and Megobari Tours.

5.00One of the best trips I have ever been on. During the car journey, we stopped at many beautiful viewpoints, each one more breathtaking than the last. The towns we visited were very pretty and we had a lot of freedom to explore, which was great. The optional horse riding was a great choice, it's an unforgettable experience and I recommend it to anyone who's hesitating. The guide who led us throughout the trip was very nice and we got on really well, I felt like I was going to the mountains with friends. It is important to remember that this involves many hours spent in the car, which may be a problem for some people. To make the trip even better, I would gladly add more moments outside the car. During the trip to the glacier, I recommend walking to the end and trying to drink water from it. Even though it is ice cold, it is great.

5.00The two-day tour to Mestia and Ushguli was a really great experience and definitely worth the money. Although the bus for six people was a bit small and narrow (max. 5 people would have been more comfortable), but overall it was a very successful trip. There were many stops to take photos and enjoy the impressive surroundings. The trip provided a quick but very impressive overview of Swanetia. Anna did a great job and also gave us excellent food recommendations.
