The Swartberg Pass can be bumpy at times (gravel road). We do our uttermost best to drive very carefully.

What To Expect

Swartberg Pass

We start in Oudtshoorn and drive through a beautiful agricultural area to the Swartberg Mountains. There, we will start our ascent on the Swartberg Mountain Pass and tell you about the interesting facts of the fauna, flora, the amazing Geology of the mountains and the history of the pass. We take enough time to enjoy the scenery, for photo-shoots and for some small walks on the pass for those who wish to stretch their legs.

Although we were not able to go on this trip because my husband was ill, it was easy to contact this company and explain the situation and they responded immediately and with great understanding. We are very sad to have missed the trip but will definitely book again when we’re back in the country.

At first we planned to do the Swartberg Pass with our own car. Last minute we got the idea to do that in an organized way. So everything had to be arranged in the short term. They did a perfect job. There was good communication. Voice messages were even left. We enjoyed this day also thanks to our wonderful guide Sinead and have not regretted for a moment that we have engaged with them. Highly recommended.

This adventure was a MUST experience. Our guide was VERY knowledgeable, and passionate about the area. The Cango caverns were some of the largest I've been in.

Superb tour that you must experience for yourself! Impressive mountains and rocks, with the beautiful stories of Roeland. Relaxed trip, stops are adjusted to the wishes of the guests. Includes coffee, delicious lunch and a shot on the mountain. They even thought of being able to build the ladies a toilet on the mountain. It might cost a bit more than your average tour, but it's definitely worth it.

We set out with the charming South African guide Alistair and loved every minute of it. He shared his knowledge and passion about the environment and made sure that we really experienced nature. Alistair, Roeland and Lut are super friendly and very easily accessible via Whatsapp. Lunch at Prince Albert is also very tasty (you can choose from several dishes). Top day! This is a day you should not miss when you are in the area, nature is BEAUTIFUL!!

We had the trip with Roeland today. Because of the weather, he indicated in advance that we were going to do the tour the other way around! This already showed that knowledge was okay. We had a very nice tour! Roeland had answers to all the questions! We enjoyed the tour and the stories!

We were fortunate to get Roland all to ourselves on our tour and he couldn’t have made the day any more special. Nothing was too much trouble and he was very knowledgeable, and seemed to know the answers to all our endless questions. The route he took had the most beautiful views and he knew all the best places to stop. We would 100% recommend this tour.

Our tour wasn't actually guided by Roeland & Lutgart, but they organised the day for us & had delegated Lynette from A 2 Zebra Adventures to look after us. (We did meet them briefly at lunchtime). Everything ran beautifully, snacks & drinks provided en route. We were booked in for the 1st tour at Cango Caves, & then went over the Pass, very glad that we had chosen not to drive ourselves. The pouring rain on the south side didn't reduce our interest in the ride, with varying flora & road engineering explained. The north side was sunny and we walked some stretches, including the part through a gorge with awe-inspiring geology very clear to see. An excellent lunch was included at Price Albert, then we looped back over the other pass, stopping at the Meiringspoort waterfall (not much water for us, but a lovely spot, and more wildlife (frogs, crabs & marauding baboon!) to spot! then back to our accommodation to recover at the pool before dinner. A fascinating and memorable day.

An amazing experience The service and arrangements for the tour w ere first class and executed faultlessly. Roelend our guide was very friendly and made as many stops for pictures as we wanted as long as it was safe to do so. He was also a mind of information regarding the Flora and Forner of the route. We saw Baboons, water buffalo, springbok and ostriches during the tour and always had the opportunity to stop to get some pictures. Many thanks and if we have any friends visiting South Africa we will be sure to tell them to get in touch for a wonderful day out at a reasonable cost.
