Licensed by the state tour guides are freelance and it is subject to availability on bookings day!

What To Expect

Piraeus

Pick up from your cruise ship pier at Piraeus port. We will drive along the coastal road of Saronic Gulf to enjoy the Piraeus and Athens riviera. The Port of Piraeus is the chief seaport of Athens, Greece, located on the Saronic Gulf on the western coasts of the Aegean Sea. Piraeus port is the largest port in Greece, home to Europe's biggest passenger port, and as such is a huge draw for cruise ships from around the world bringing tourists eager to explore this centuries-old city, and one of the largest in Europe. But yet another major draw is the fact that it's easy to visit Athens because it's located nearby. The Greek capital city of Athens is just 12 kilometers or 7 miles from Piraeus port. We will drive directly to the Acropolis to admire the Temple of Democracy!

The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens, and its monuments are universal symbols of the classical spirit and civilization and form the greatest architectural and artistic complex bequeathed by Greek Antiquity to the world. In the second half of the 5th-century bc, Athens, following the victory against the Persians and the establishment of democracy, took a leading position amongst the other city-states of the ancient world. In the age that followed, as thought and art flourished, an exceptional group of artists put into effect the ambitious plans of Athenian statesman Pericles and, under the inspired guidance of the sculptor Pheidias, transformed the rocky hill into a unique monument of thought and the arts. The most important monuments were built during that time: the Parthenon, built by Ictinus, the Erechtheon, the Propylaea, the monumental entrance to the Acropolis, designed by Mnesicles, and the small temple Athena Nike.

I had a wonderful tour of Athens and Corinth after a cruise. My tour guide was excellent at showing me sites I had not seen before and providing a wealth of information. Corinth was really a thrill in that I got to walk the streets that were there during the time of St. Paul. Highly recommend.

Michael was an amazing guide! He took us to see everything we had hoped to see, explained everything and even took us to see the changing of the guards and we got to taste some traditional Greek cuisine. He was super knowledgeable, very professional and courteous. Highly recommend for anyone thinking about booking this tour!

The overall experience was great. Our driver was very knowledgeable and explained many of the wonderful sites that we visited in Athens. I would highly recommend using Athens Shore Excursions over the more expensive tours offered by the cruise ship.

We had a great day with Totti! She shared a lot of information with us. We saw so much. She navigated us around easily even with the crazy traffic! She explained about more than just the sites we visited. She talked about how people in Athens live, work, etc. She took us to a local restaurant where we had a great lunch. We ran over a bit at the museum, but she was very accommodating with us. We all appreciated the sites and her knowledge. It was such an easy experience. The vehicle was very nice as well. She had it cool each time we got back in which was nice because it was very hot! I highly recommend using this company and requesting Totti to be your guide!

We had a great tour of Athens with Andreas from our cruise ship. We had docked earlier than scheduled, but Andreas picked us up earlier and was really welcoming. He was able to get us into Athens before the ship excursions so we were able to spend some time at the Olympieion before it got busy. Andreas then took us to the Greek Parliament for a photo and then to the Panathenaic Stadium before we headed to the Acropolis. It was then off to lunch and Andreas took us to a really lovely place called 5F, which was full of locals and the food was lovely. It was then back into the city centre to Lycabettus Hill, the Acropolis Museum and finally the Roman Agora before heading back to the ship. He took us to everywhere that we wanted to see in Athens and was even able to accommodate us stopping in a few extra places. We have recommended Athens Shore Excursions to others and would have no hesitation in using them again.

Inquired about a 4 hours tour and prices by email in July 2024 , paid 50 euros plus Acropolis tickets. Was met at the airport and taken with my husband to a great tour of Athens then the Acropolis. Was dropped by with our luggage at the port to board our ship on time.

Enquired, itinerary and price agreed in May 2024. All confirmed by email and deposit of 50 Euros paid - cancellation terms provided. On the day of the tour, met by the guide with good signage. The 8 hours tour was excellent - historical and very informative. The guide had excellent knowledge and provided a good commentary throughout the tour.

Great day exploring Athens with just us two and our driver. We set the itinerary and spent only the time we wanted at the sites that we wanted to see. Best way to make your valuable time and experience all your own. Our guide/driver was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of useful information and history. He knew the answers to our questions and knew how to prioritize our itinerary so we avoided the big crowds!
