Senglea is one of the most densely populated parts of Malta – and where there’s people, there are dark tales to be told.
Within the city’s atmospheric streets there have been gruesome murders and a miraculous Madonna.
Strange thefts have occurred from the parish church, which was built by an architect who liked talking to the dead.
Senglea was badly affected on the day a dragon flew into the Grand Harbour and caused devastation, while mermaids have also been known to swim ashore to hide in Senglea’s caves.
The tour will also pass by the house where a young woman was brutally beheaded by her two lovers.

What To Expect
Fort Saint Michael
The tour begins at the foot of Fort St Michael and we then walk up the hill towards it and through the gate, into the ancient city of Senglea.
Senglea Clock Tower
The tour will pass by Senglea Clock Tower and the site of the old slave's prison.

5.00Having also attended the Birgu tour and being a fan of dark misdeeds of the past myself, Mario's knowledgeable delivery and solid sense of humour quickly convinced me that I must attend the rest of the tours. Apart from the tours, he uploads interesting short clips on Instagram which showcase his dedication to researching historical source material. A much needed breath of fresh air for anyone curious about the intricate and often overlooked gritty history of Malta.

5.00We recently joined the Dark Malta Tour of Senglea and it was truly one of the most interesting experiences. The stories shared throughout the tour were captivating, mysterious, and full of hidden history that made Senglea come alive in a completely different way. Mario Cacciatolo is an amazing storyteller and guide who knows how to keep everyone engaged from beginning to end. His passion for Maltese history and the darker side of Malta’s past really shines through, and what made it even better was his fantastic sense of humour. He balanced the eerie and historical stories perfectly with fun and laughter, making the whole experience unforgettable. If you love history, mystery, and hearing fascinating stories told in an entertaining way, we highly recommend the Dark Malta Tour. A unique experience that shows a different side of Malta! Although it was a bit windy during the tour, we must say Mario’s hair remained perfectly in place the entire time… truly impressive! XD

5.00⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An outstanding tour from start to finish. Mario was incredibly knowledgeable about the history and presented everything in a clear, engaging way. The whole experience was very well organised, and he interacted with the group throughout the entire two hours, keeping everyone involved and interested. He was extremely well prepared, using photos on a tablet to bring the stories and locations to life, which made a big difference. What really set this tour apart was the delivery — it’s not just a tour, it’s an experience, presented with a perfect touch of dark humour :) I enjoyed it a lot and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for something informative, entertaining, and memorable.
