It’s probably on the slightly pricier side of what it’s worth, but Hell’s Gate gives a slick geothermal experience. The walk around the various boiling mud pools and geothermal springs is interesting (and a nice way to stretch your legs), though the Māori wood carving tutorial felt like a bit of ‘tourist trap’ bolt on (not helped by the fact that as we arrived, the master carve instructor stepped out for his lunch and left us with a perfectly pleasant but less engaging staff member). The actual mud spa is very well set up, and slickly run (making sure people aren’t in the mud for too long and keeping people rotating), but does feel a little like a conveyor belt as a result, though the ‘free soak’ in the hot pool at the end is entirely at your own leisure and is incredibly relaxing.

Rather disappointing, more like Nigella's kitchen than Hell's Gate :-(. Mud bath was a good experience

We did the Hells gate experience, non guided tour. Was nice going at our own pace. Mud experience and sulphur baths also nice.

Super nice staff, great guide on the tour with lots of local info. The baths were also amazing. Definitely recommend 👍

Going here, I expected to most enjoy the spas and mud bath, but I actually thoroughly enjoyed the geothermal walk. You wouldn’t know it when driving up, but hidden inside is a geothermal wonder. The geothermal walk reminded me of all the marvels this planet has to offer.
