This is a great way to learn more about recent and actual history of Tirana. The tour will bring you to fascist and communist public and secret corners of Tirana, to the recently opened Bunk'Art and to some corners of the city center of Tirana that you would not think of visiting on your own. This is a tour of locals, made and guided by locals and will make you feel and understand the tragic and comic side of life in one of the most isolated capitals in the World during approximately 44 years. Life's been hard and sweet under Communism and we'll have great ways to illustrate all that by always telling the truth. Apart from history and art we will also make sure you taste a bit of the local cuisine and products for which Tirana is building up quite a reputation. Our good thing is that we try to involve and get into conversation with locals regarding the past and the present Albania and you will see that this will be enriching your travel experience quite importantly.

What To Expect

We'll meet at your hotel at 09h30 and we' first go for a walk of about 3 hours around the city center of Tirana. Our visits will include the Gallery of Arts, the Martyrs of the Nation Boulevard, the Block and Enver Hoxha's villa (from the outside for the moment), bunkers and art relating to Albania's worst historical periods during the 20th century. We'll eventually continue the tour with a visit of our Villa with Star and our Communist Memorabilia Collection. We'll be good at offering our very own home made raki and some of the jam our Moms prepared recently as from our best tradition. At around 13h we'll take a little lunch break in either your favorite or interesting part of the downtown or in the one or two places we'll recommend. Please note we'll be trying to consider this as a culinary experience tour too and if you will allow us to choose for you we'll make sure not to bring you to expensive places but to memorable ones. After the lunch we'll pick up a car (depending on the size of the group) and we'll go around Tirana surroundings and neighborhoods to see what remains from Communist architecture, lifestyle and again meet more people and see their opinions about what happened. We'll drive you back to your hotel at around 16h.

We had a truly delightful family tour of Tirana. Our guide, Ervin, thoughtfully adjusted the pace to suit our needs,especially with a two-year-old in tow, while still providing us with comprehensive insights into the city and valuable knowledge about the country. It was an excellent way to begin our journey, and we would highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Albania.

We had an incredible day with Elton our guide. Elton was both amiable and very informative as we spent the whole day touring Tirana, a fascinating city. There were many highlights including opportunities to meet and engage local people and hear their stories. A visit to the Albanian studios movie archive was a real privilege and it included a private viewing of a once banned film. By the end of the day we really felt that we had got to know Tirana and it's people really well. We did a socialist-realism art tour, we are very keen to return and do other tours that this company offer. Thankyou for a wonderful experience!

I am so thankful for Irvin spending an entire day with me on the Communist tour, I learned so much. Irvin was incredibly accommodating, I saw at least ten different sites and that was on a Sunday! Tirana is an amazing city, I cannot recommend this tour group enough!

It was a guided tour starting in Tirana's outskirts, seeing the prefabricated concrete buildings of the sixties, then we continued to the flea market and to a very interesting conversation with the father of one of the organizers, who told us about his life during the communist regime. That, by itself was worth the trip, but we continued visiting the socialist art gallery and walking down the wide avenues of Tirana. We also saw the statue of the Nation's hero, and got comments of all the sorroundigs, a true abridgment of the communist days. Unfortunately, a monument to the memory of the fallen was closed those days, since that would have been the icing in the cake. As interesting as the monuments and places we saw, was the comments of our guide, very knowledgeable of Albanian affairs, as couldn't be otherwise. His English was also excellent. We only have nice words for Albanian Trip for such an amazing day.

This tour was absoultely fantastic! My guide Ervin was funny, polite, patient and very friendly telling me fascinating stories, showed me sights, museums and even got to eat their local cuisine. History can be too much for me to take in but it was explained simpler so it was easier to understand what it was all about. However, what really touched me was meeting this genuine couple who have lived in the days of the dark past expressing and shared their personal memories without fear. How they made through it really amazes me and to hear it coming from the experience was a true blessing, and I also believe this was an inspiration not to take life for granted by always making the most of what we've got whilst it's still there. Ervin did a magnificent job and we got on so well we had a few (social) beers after! It felt like I was with a friend because he was that brilliant!
