Capuchin monks used the bones of nearly 4,000 of their brothers to decorate this somber space in intricate floor-to-ceiling designs, lending it the macabre nickname of ‘the Bone Chapel’. Here you will be free to explore hearing all the interesting details and the reasons behind such an unusual practice with your audio guide. Open your eyes to the city’s hidden side – and you’ll never see Rome the same way again.
Catacombe Di Domitilla
Your expert historian guide will explain how this network of sacred tunnels is associated with the first Christians in ancient Rome. You’ll descend into the labyrinthian corridors carved into the soft volcanic rock and discover the frescoes, strange iconography and burial places which doubled as places of worship when the Christians were persecuted.

Cat was a fantastico guide. We went to three different those of crypts or catacombes and each was unique and interesting. Cat was very friendly, full of information about Rome, the history of the places we visited and managed our big group really well. A great tour and afternoon.

First, the tours were breathtaking, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Diving into some of Rome’s history with a guide who was obviously passionate and knowledgeable about it was great. Emiliano was entertaining, informative, and welcoming. 100% would take the tour again, or any tour with him as a guide.

Our tour guide “Cat” was awesome. She was extremely knowledgable and made the whole tour worth while. I do caution that this tour requires waking up and down very steep steps, but that was to be expected since it’s a tour of the underground catacombs.

The Roman Crypts, Catacombs and Basilica tour was one of the most fascinating experiences of my visit to Rome. Exploring the ancient catacombs provided a unique glimpse into early Christian history, with miles of underground tunnels and burial chambers that have been preserved for centuries. The crypts were equally impressive, a very unique experience. Cat our guide was very knowledgeable and gave great insight to the history of each site. I highly recommend this tour.

Fascinating look at Roman history. I worried it would be creepy but it was so interesting. Loved this tour.

Good organization and timing. We experienced two guides, with very different qualities; not all of their statements were historically sound. The explanations about the Capuchin Crypt were particularly noteworthy.

Very interesting tour! I especially liked the catacombs. Spanning over several centuries, and consisting of several layers, with the deepest layers being the most recent.
