Museum and Crypt of Capuchins Friars
Your first destination is the Capuchin Crypt. Capuchin monks used the bones of nearly 4,000 of their brothers to decorate this somber space in intricate floor-to-ceiling designs, lending it the macabre nickname of ‘the Bone Chapel’. Here you will be free to explore hearing all the interesting details and the reasons behind such an unusual practice with your audio guide. Open your eyes to the city’s hidden side – and you’ll never see Rome the same way again.
Catacombe Di Domitilla
Your expert historian guide will explain how this network of sacred tunnels is associated with the first Christians in ancient Rome. You’ll descend into the labyrinthian corridors carved into the soft volcanic rock and discover the frescoes, strange iconography and burial places which doubled as places of worship when the Christians were persecuted.

This tour was very well organized and perfect for the rainy day we had. Antonino was an excellent guide who speaks with real passion about history and shares many fascinating details that make the experience memorable. He truly helps you travel back in time and see the burials and catacombs as people did in that era.

Excursion does not start at 2.20. Completely waisted our pressures 40 min standing in a crowd and doing absolutely nothing. Had to walk up the hill to the coach . Excursion itself was way too long walking around this narrow paths of catacombs.

We wanted to experience something a little different on our visit to Rome, so when we saw this your advertised we started looking at different choices, the Original crypt tour by city wonders was by far the best option, 3 different locations with transfers. We didn't know what to expect but our guide Andrea was excellent, he was friendly, funny and absolutely knew his stuff...he explained the afternoons destinations and filled us with so much knowledge. The cappuccin crypt is a very eerie place indeed, have an open mind when visiting. The catacombs were excellent, and a must do in my opinion, The only disappointment is that there is no photography aloud. The final church you visit is absolutely stunning, beautiful statues and paintings the decor is like a palace it also has a little surprise underneath it. Overall I would recommend this to anyone wanting to do something else or a little different than visit ruins etc. At no time did we feel rushed or pressured while visiting each destination and the coach driver was very friendly and the coach itself comfortable, thank you Andrea for sharing your knowledge and showing us a different side to Rome.

From start to finish our tour guide Alan was great, very informative and very patient with asking and answering all our questions , not too bad for walking as we did get a rest on the bus between each place we went to which very good value for the price , crypts were awesome , we felt very comfortable with our tour guide and would definitely recommend this tour to anyone staying in Rome , we used the city of wonders

Alllisandra (spelling?) was fantastic! She explained everything so well before we went into the Roman Crypts. Her partner, I think Sylvia, explained more things on the bus on the way to the Catacombs. The guide in the Catacombs, can’t remember his name, was excellent! I was absolutely astonished with the size of the Catacombs. Just unreal and hard to believe all of that was underground. The final stop was at a church, where we went down into the section under the church. And again, Allisandra explained everything thoroughly. I would highly recommend this tour!

Whilst this tour was ultimately an average experience, I would not recommend it for its large group size, disappointing tour elements, and irrelevant third stop. Firstly, the tour posting very clearly states that the tour group maximum size is 25: this is not the case. At our meeting point approximately 40+ plus people had gathered, whereupon we were split into two "groups" with a guide each. However, the groups stayed largely together and we were released into the Capuchin Crypts at the same time which caused crowding. Later after departing the bus taking us to the Catacombs, we were very surprised that our group of 40+ would be taken through the catacombs in a single group with one guide. It was cramped and overcrowded as a result, and we definitely felt that we were missing our guide's commentary when we were stuck at the back simply because of how large the group was. The only time when the two groups actually seperated was at the final stop which I will discuss more below. Secondly, the actual tour element was disappointing. At the Capuchin Crypts we were given the standard audio guide that all visitors to the Crypts could receive. We were then told that we had approximately 40 minutes which we quickly realised meant that we probably could not actually get through all of that audio guide without skipping through. Also, I believe the Catacombs tour was actually given by a Catacombs tour guide instead of the provider's own guides. This was fine, but it felt strange booking a tour guide through a provider who then just hand you off to another venue's own tour guide (or audio guide). Also mentioning again that the overcrowding let down this element of the tour significantly and it also felt somewhat rushed. Finally, the third stop felt largely irrelevant and tacked on. Whilst our guide's commentary was informative, it didn't feel like a location that benefitted from having a guide nor did it feel particularly connected with the rest of the tour. Sadly it felt like this was an addition simply to pad out the tour length. To sum up, we think these locations are worth visiting but ultimately booking this tour is probably not the best way to see them. If we had known that the tour group size was going to be in its 40s, we simply would not have booked this experience. I think it is much better to visit these sites at your own leisure and pace to fully soak them in.
