Museum and Crypt of Capuchins Friars
Your first destination is the Capuchin Crypt. Capuchin monks used the bones of nearly 4,000 of their brothers to decorate this somber space in intricate floor-to-ceiling designs, lending it the macabre nickname of ‘the Bone Chapel’. Here you will be free to explore hearing all the interesting details and the reasons behind such an unusual practice with your audio guide. Open your eyes to the city’s hidden side – and you’ll never see Rome the same way again.
Catacombe Di Domitilla
Your expert historian guide will explain how this network of sacred tunnels is associated with the first Christians in ancient Rome. You’ll descend into the labyrinthian corridors carved into the soft volcanic rock and discover the frescoes, strange iconography and burial places which doubled as places of worship when the Christians were persecuted.

Emiliano was an absolutely fantastic tour guide! So friendly, authentic, and with a wonderful sense of humor. We learned so many interesting things from him, and thanks to him we will always remember the Capuchin Crypt and the Catacombs as an outstanding experience. Highly recommended! ❤️ And Emiliano: we’re sorry we didn’t join the church visit afterwards, we were hungry, grumpy, and whining like little kids 🤣 so we thought we’d just visit it over the next few days instead. It truly had nothing to do with you. We would choose you again anytime as our tour guide in Rome! 🌷❤️ Also, I don’t have any photos for this review because, out of respect for these two special places, I did not take any pictures, sorry Readers.

Alessandra was an excellent guide, with great level of knowledge to explain the history and significance behind what we were looking at. The tour started in a great meeting place, you can’t miss it - the fountain. The group was split in two, with two tour guides each having about 20 people. We then wandered to the Capuchin Cemetery which was quite eye opening. The history behind the place made it seem much more interesting. I feel that if we went without a tour, it would have felt more macabre. After about 30 minutes inside, we walked 10 minutes to a bus. This was a private coach for the two groups together. Emiliano was a fun tour guide with the other group who spoke on the bus trip to the Catacombs about places in Rome that we were driving by. The drive was short, maybe 20 minutes or so but it flew by. The catacomb visit lasted about an hour. I felt safe with Alessandra in the vast dark tunnels of the catacombs. It would be very easy to get lost! The last stop on the bus ride back to the city was a seemingly unimportant looking church but in reality, it made the whole morning worthwhile as it put the two places we’d just seen into context by linking the two. This made it feel more like an experience than a tour of multiple sites. It really rounded off the trip. The guides were helpful if you needed assistance getting back to your accommodation via public transport or finding a nice restaurant for lunch. I’d recommend this tour if you want to do something different in Rome that doesn’t involve high number of people and crowds, but gives you a greater appreciation of the history and the layers under Rome.

We had Emiliano as our guide. He was naturally funny and just made the experience better. I was not sure what I was expecting, I just saw some the pictures and read the description pre booking, but it was definitely better than expected and far more enjoyable than the colosseum and Vatican tours.

We had a great tour with Ale! She was such a knowledgeable guide and her passion for art and history was evident in her tour. We booked this tour to see the catacombs. They were very interesting and we learned parts of Roman history that you don’t always hear about. But in addition to the catacombs we saw the capuchin crypts and that was really astonishing (no spoilers here!). Finally we visited an old church that had been excavated to show the ancient home underneath the church! Ale also gave us great aperitivo and dinner recommendations! Great tour overall!
