We did the cat walking tour our very first day in Reykjavik at the very end of November and it was perfect! I’ll be honest, I thought this tour might be a bit “gimmicky” when I booked it, which I didn’t mind because I’m a pretty hardcore cat lover, but it exceeded my expectations by far!! After doing this tour, I can tell you that cats play an integral role in the culture of Reykjavík and in the history of Iceland, and this tour truly immerses you in both of those things. Barði was our guide and he, as the #1 cat lover in Iceland, made the experience unforgettable. He knows all the local cats, their lore, and where they like to hang out, so we got to see tons of cats on this cold and windy day. We loved learning about, admiring, and petting the local cats, and Barði sprinkles in the perfect amount of historical information about Reykjavík in general, as well as the role cats have played throughout Iceland’s rich history. I learned so much on this tour that we were “impressing” subsequent tour guides with the knowledge Barði bestowed on us. This was truly the perfect way to start our trip and get acquainted with the city. Plus, by doing this on our first day, we knew where to go back to see cats on subsequent days when we happened upon them (or, to be honest, sought them out). Additionally, every other traveler we encountered on our tour was supremely jealous ;). Clearly, not enough people know about this tour, so if you see this review and you love cats, this is a MUST!

Einar was a great tour guide! He showed us all of the popular spots that the cats hang out at & we even saw a few of the popular local kitties! We loved his stories as well. The cat cafe was also very cute with some excellent pastries and hot chocolate. Highly recommend for any cat lover visiting Reykjavik :)

We enjoyed seeing the Cats of the City. We liked the walk through the city centre and meeting the cats in the Cat Cafe where we enjoyed our coffee and a treat. We would have never found the Cafe had he not included it. The tour guide was very passionate about the cats and showing us where they all wonder. We were not sure what to expect but did get a lot from the tour along with the special Murals we would not have found on our own. It was a Purr-fect way to meow-nder through Reykjavik to meet the famous Icelandic Cats.

This was so fun! Our guide, Birgir Dagur, told us it was his first time running the tour on his own and he was a little nervous to start with - we really appreciated him being so honest but we assured him there was absolutely nothing to be nervous about. We were very lucky as we were the only 2 people on the tour. Our tour guide, once he was more comfortable after a few minutes was very personable, funny and full of really great facts, stories and information. He took us around to several locations and answered all our questions we had - we learnt so many things we didn’t know about Iceland and gave us a great new perspective of the beautiful country and downtown Reykjavík. We couldn’t track down all the famous cats of Reykjavík unfortunately but we definitely had a great time trying. We even got to go to a cat cafe where we spent some time playing and cuddling the cats who were all available for adoption. We ended our tour at the Einar Jonsson Museum and Sculpture Garden where a sweet little orange kitten came along to say hello. It was the perfect end to a great tour with a fantastic tour guide. It is such a fun and unique way to start a trip to Iceland and get a lay of the land in Reykjavík. I highly recommend this tour!

We went on this walking tour with a woman who had not given this tour before. Her English was somewhat limited. It was raining, and it was uncomfortable crowding around her to listen. The tour was to places where sometimes there were cats, and sometimes not. The cat murals were good, and the cat store where you end up was good. Only take this if you are having a good day, and/or in good weather!

My husband and I are big cat lovers so as soon as we saw this tour, we knew we had to do it. Bardi was such a friendly and informative guide. We loved learning the history of cats in Iceland, visiting the cat cafe Kattakaffihúsið and meeting the shop cats in town. We also loved meeting his kitties at the end. 🥰 This was one of the best, most unique tours we've ever been on.

The Reykjavik Cat Walking Tour was such a delightful surprise and one of the most heartwarming experiences of my trip. It’s not just about meeting adorable cats (though you definitely do!)—it’s also a quirky, cultural journey through Reykjavik with a feline twist. Our guide Robyn clearly loved both cats and Icelandic history, sharing stories about the city’s most famous resident cats, their roles in local shops and cafés, and the special place cats hold in Icelandic culture. We learned fun facts about the Yule Cat of Icelandic folklore. What made it special was the relaxed pace—wandering through peaceful streets, popping into cat-friendly spots, and meeting a few furry locals lounging in windows or greeting us outside stores. There were lots of photo opportunities and even a few cuddles along the way. This tour felt intimate, cozy, and very Reykjavik—full of personality, local charm, and plenty of pawsitive vibes. Even if you’re not a hardcore cat person, it’s a sweet and unique way to explore the city. A must-do for animal lovers or anyone looking for a lighthearted, unforgettable tour experience. You’ll finish with a smile... and maybe a few cat hair souvenirs!

The tour guide was amazing, checking out all the shop cats. He was knowledgeable and fun. All the shop workers knew him by name.
