Barracuda Biking Company
We meet at 7:30am to begin our once in a lifetime journey. We hop aboard our private transport en route to La Cumbre at 4700m. Once there, we get all our gear (helmets, gloves, knee/elbow pads, pants/jacket) and our top of the line bikes (Kona Full Suspension bikes with hydraulic disk brakes). Our bikes are maintained after every ride and we have over 100 bikes in our shop, ensuring you will get a bike that has been serviced and is adequate to your height. Also, the brakes are on the side you want them (different countries use different sides for the front/rear brake and you wouldn't want to grab the wrong brake because it's not set for your country). Our guides have an average of 10 years experience guiding on this incredible road. They give you detailed instructions before we start the ride to help keep you safe and comfortable on our descent. After our safety induction, we begin our ride. The first 24km of the ride are on the tarmac, this is a great chance for you to get a feel for your bike and the brakes and if you're up for it get some speed. The incredible andes show their splendor as we wind our way through this spectacular valley, taking small stops to catch the views and so the guides can explain upcoming sections. Eventually we arrive at Unduavi where every rider has to pay a road tax. Here we load up our bikes and do a big uphill on the bus. The bus arrives to the top of the old road, known as Death Road. Your guides will give you a safety briefing and check all the bikes. The barren snow capped mountains we have passed by are long gone and we are now in the incredible cloud forest. We literally start above the clouds, then ride through and out of them into the lush jungle. The last 40km of our ride are out of this world, as we curve our way down an incredible road carved out of the side of the andes, passing through waterfalls, rivers, small communities, down, down, down to the steaming jungle. The views of the valley are breathtaking and the rush of adrenaline and pure fun are incomparable. We have several stops along the way to take in the views and for our safety briefings. This is important so that you know about any corners or tricky sections of the road before you arrive and so that the guides can answer any questions, tell some jokes and give you some of the fascinating history of this road. We stop twice to refresh ourselves with a well earned snack and there is unlimited water provided during the ride. We end the ride at our jungle refuge where we enjoy a delicious buffet, a dip in the pool and relaxation. There are also hot showers and soap/shampoo/towels for you. After relaxing and celebrating our amazing ride, we hop in the bus for our 3.5 hour ride back to La Paz, where we will be dropped off near our hotels. Many people say this is the best experience of their south America trip, make sure you do it safely with a reputable company who focuses on giving you an amazing ride.

Excellent day tour out of La Paz. Cristian and Cesar were very professional and we had so much fun; we even got to zip line half way through the death road! Would highly recommend!

We had an absolute blast with Remy and Mauricio as our tour guides. Both were highly professional and helpful and despite that our group was big, everyone could ride at their own skill level. The gear and bikes were both of high quality and food and drinks throughout the day were plenty. It was also really nice to jump in the pool afterwards and enjoy a good lunch

The road is wonderful to do this kind of sport, for those who really like it. It is a unique feeling forever and even more to meet incredible people like the guides and people who come from all over the world to make the Road of the Murte. I loved

We had a great tour with Remy Conde. Remy explained to us before each passage what we need to pay attention to and how we should ride. Moreover, he spread good cheer all day and was always concerned about the well-being of all participants. I myself am a beginner at biking. He gave me a few tips, so I was able to improve in a short time. We had a wonderful day. Thank you very much Remy, Cesar, and team!

It was a great day trip. The equipment—bikes, protective gear, etc.—was in great condition. Remy explained everything clearly and did a fantastic job leading the group. Whether you ride fast or slow, it was a lot of fun. Thank you very much.

They were great but their knee pads are so old that the Velcro doesn’t work and the pads don’t stay in place. I fractured my tibia on this bc I ended up taking the knee pads off (as the Velcro wasn’t working anyways) and slipped on a wet rock.. really old Bikes. Nice beautiful road.

We had a great day together with the great guides Remy and Claudio. They explained a lot and prepared us superbly for the critical points of the road. With the two guides you can clearly see that they do it with passion and the safety of the participants is paramount. The equipment borrowed was of very good quality, both the mountain bike and the jackets & pants with protectors.
