Did the 8 Days Lhasa to Everest Base Camp Small Group Tour operated by Tibet Vista that started on 27 Oct'2024. Was deciding whether to book direct with Tibet Vista or thru Viator and decided for the latter. This tour was very well organised and the response from Tibet Vista including my sales consultant Amy was always timely. I upgraded my hotel from Gang Gyan to Xin Ding in Lhasa for an extra US$32/- since Xin Ding had better heating and the reviews were better. The hotel at Shigatse was good too. I also paid for the single supplement since I wanted my own hotel room for those 6 nights. Turned out it was not that far to walk from Xin Ding hotel to the Potala Palace Square / KFC / dept store roughly an easy less than 2km. I landed at Lhasa airport early around 0945am on Sunday 27 Oct and had to wait for approx 2.5 hours while the airport driver waited for other flights that were all arriving quite closely to each other! However, after that, the tour proper went very well. Our guide Everest Tenzin turned up at our hotel on Monday 28 Oct, together with our bus driver Norbu, for the start of the tour proper and he was outstanding. He answered questions patiently and was informative and always thinking ahead about what would be good for our group. Examples as follow: When the monks debate at Sera monastery was canceled by the monastery, he arranged a suitable alternative for us to Norbulingka palace which is part of the Potala Palace UNESCO sites after our group agreed with this alternative. He found a great viewing spot for the Potala Palace. He even hailed a taxi for me when I wanted to go back early to my hotel after Jokhang Temple and told me the fare which was really cheap, just 10 yuan!. Along the way to EBC, he and our driver Norbu spotted some wild animals and slowed the bus for us to take photos. We stopped at multiple scenic spots such as Yamdrok Lake along the way. He even tried to upgrade our rooms at Everest base camp so that we could have a more comfortable stay at EBC and lucky for our group, he succeeded! So, instead of having to share dormitory/tents, we had double rooms with our own (floor?) heating and oxygen and flush toilet and hot water (not enough to shower though- it is 5,200m above sea level at EBC). The upgraded rooms really helped us from getting altitude sickness at such a great height and in fact, was comfortable! This was definitely the most outstanding performance from a guide! He and our driver were prompt to respond when a few people started to have altitude sickness /motion sickness (due to the winding roads towards EBC) and he was ready to hand out oxygen canisters etc. On our way back from EBC, we proposed to our guide E Tenzin that we swap the visit to yet another monastery at Shigatse with the monks debate at Sera monastery that we missed earlier in the week due to some ceremony at Sera monastery and he, and our driver, agreed when our entire group agreed with the swap so we got to see the monks debate at Sera monastery in the end. The tour went really well because our guide Tenzin and our driver Norbu worked together exceptionally well for those 6 days Monday to Saturday, and also because we had a good group where everyone was on time and got along and behaved well. I have travelled to many places around the world (Europe, the Americas, Middle East, Asia, Australasia/Oceania, Africa) over the years and would have to say that our guide E Tenzin and our driver Norbu were really outstanding. We were so pleased with the outstanding performance of our guide E Tenzin and our driver Norbu that we gave them a good tip. The airport driver then picked us up at the agreed time on Sunday 03 Nov for the approx 1 hour drive to the airport. Overall, a really smooth tour.
