What To Expect
Nakamise Shopping Street (Kaminarimon)
Start your Asakusa visit at the famous Kaminarimon Gate, where the huge red lantern makes a perfect photo spot. After taking your picture, walk into Nakamise, one of Japan’s oldest shopping streets. This 250‑meter walkway is lined with stalls selling traditional snacks and a variety of local crafts, giving you a lively taste of old Edo.
Hozomon
Standing in front of the main hall, this impressive two‑story gate is protected by two fierce Nio statues that guard the temple’s sacred grounds. On the back of the gate, you’ll see a pair of huge “O‑waraji” straw sandals, each weighing about 500 kilograms, hung to ward off evil. The gate was originally built to store important Buddhist scriptures. At night it’s beautifully illuminated, creating a calm atmosphere that is very different from the daytime.

5.00Went on a tour through the area with the wonderful host Yoshi, she was an amazing guide, so kind, attentive and very knowledgeable. It’s worth touring this area with a guide! She showed us the local food and treats, helped me to purchase a beautiful kimono and taught us the locals traditions!
