Drive to Gierłoż takes around 4 hours. It’s a chance to experience the Polish countryside and ask your guide all the questions you can imagine. He’s your host, and his passion is to make you understand Poland, its history and its spirit. So don’t miss that chance.
Wilczy Szaniec
The tour takes around 2 hours of walking. You will visit the complex with your guide or with audioguides. Wolf’s Lair was the most important of Hitler’s headquarters, hidden in Masuria, a region of Northern Poland famous for its 2.000 lakes. It was the perfect place to set up an inaccessible complex of bunkers with lakes and swamps blocking its access. The complex, which would become one of several Führer Headquarters located in various parts of occupied Europe, was built for Operation Barbarossa's start – the invasion of the Soviet Union – in 1941. The top-secret, high-security site was in the Masurian woods about 8 km from the small East Prussian town of Rastenburg (now Kętrzyn in Poland). Three security zones surrounded the central complex where Führer’s bunker was located. Despite the security, an assassination attempt against Hitler was made at Wolf’s Lair on 20 July 1944. On the 25th of January 1945, due to the Red Army's rapid advance, the complex was blown up and abandoned.

Marcin picked us up from the hotel, and we chatted with him the entire way to the Wolf’s Lair — a great opportunity to make the most of the trip and learn about local history and politics. The site is very well preserved, and it’s clear they keep making improvements to enhance the visitor experience, which makes it highly recommended. The restaurant on-site is also excellent, with delicious traditional food and a wide selection of local beers. Definitely a highly recommended experience. Thanks for everything Marcin, you nailed it!

Excellent experience. We were lucky to have Konrad as our guide. He picked us up on time and was very helpful. We had great conversation on our 2 hour drive to Wolf's Lair. Our guide in Wolf's Lair (can't remeber her name) but she was amazing. She spent so much time with us explaining in great detail.

Tom was punctual on pick up and immediately had a history & background for our hotel as it was also the anniversary of the WW 2 invasion of Poland. The drive thru the Polish countryside was beautiful as well as filled with historical information. He always took our comfort into consideration. The guide at Wolf’s Lair was just as knowledgeable & completed a perfect visit. Followed by a delicious Polish lunch, as we requested, we returned to Warsaw happy after a perfect day!

The tour was amazing. Martin was very knowledgeable and so generous with his time to answer all our questions. He was punctual and made sure the day was very enjoyable. The vehicle was so comfortable, and we were pleased with how safe we felt when sometimes I could be a nervous passenger. We learnt so much more than anticipated and got to see extra bits of history of Poland beyond Wolfs Lair. This is a must do tour for anyone interested in WW2 or wants to better appreciate what life in Poland has been like for generations. Many thanks, Martin, for your attention to our needs and for making a long day pass so quickly

We were super lucky as we had our driver and guide, Martin and trainee guide Tom with us for the day. It was a 4 hour drive but it passed very quickly enjoying the countryside we travelled through and learning a lot about the Polish history. At Wolf’s Lair we had a local guide who showed us through Hitler’s complex and was super knowledgeable about this. It was such a great day, learning so much and we were really looked after. So happy we took this tour. Highly recommend it.

Honestly the most informative tour we have ever been on. Marcin is so knowledgeable on Polish History,We learnt so much . We saw Storks nesting ( something I have never seen before). Marcin pulled up so I could take photos. The Lakes District is a must see as is the tour of Wolf Lair. Our tour guide at wolfs lair was also so knowledgeable again we were blown away with her knowledge. If you want a professional, personalised ,informative tour ( with a bit of fun included) book with Marcin at Warsar behind the Scenes. You won't be disappointed.
