What To Expect
Teatro Nacional Sao Joao
Located in the Plaza DA Batalha, right in the historic centre of Porto, close DA St. Benedict DE Station and DA See. Inaugurated in 1798 as the Royal Theatre DE São João, it was the first theatre built DE root in Porto. Destroyed POR a fire in 1908 and rebuilt and reopened in 1920, with a project by the architect José Marques DA Silva (the same architect DA St. Benedict DE Station). In 1992, he was elevated to the category DE National Theatre. Neoclassical style and Beaux-Arts. Imposing facade with columns, sculptures and inscriptions. Richly decorated interior: golden frescoes, painted ceilings and cabins. It is one of the main centres DE theatre and performing arts DE Portugal. It receives classical and contemporary pieces, festivals, debates, workshops and cultural events. It also promotes its own theatrical production and supports national and international companies. It can be visited in shows or guided tours (on schedule). Guided tours cover history, backstage and architecture.
Sao Bento Railway Station
The station was built in the early 20th century, officially inaugurated on 5 DE October DE 1916. The building replaced the old Convent DE Saint Benedict DE Avé-Maria, which was demolished to give way to the new building. The architectural design is by the architect José Marques DA Silva, and the style relates to Beaux-Arts, French influence. The building has the shape of “U” and is connected POR internal tunnels to the rail network, connecting to Port-Campanhã and other lines. One of the biggest attractions DA station is its interior coated with more DE 20,000 historic tiles. These panels were painted POR Jorge Colaço between 1905 and 1908, and illustrate scenes DA history DE Portugal, rurality, transport and historical moments. In the upper parts of the atrium, you can see inscriptions such as “Douro” and “Minho”, which are important rivers DA region. The station is a terminal for urban and regional trains.

5.00We had an incredible tuk-tuk tour with Bruno in Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. My husband loves history and I’m more drawn to arts and culture—and Bruno masterfully wove both together in a way that kept us equally engaged the entire time. What truly set him apart was how thoughtfully he tailored the experience for our family. Traveling with two young kids can be tricky, but Bruno knew exactly where to take us: hidden overlooks with cafés, tucked-away playgrounds, and relaxed spots where we could enjoy a drink while the kids played. It made the tour feel effortless and fun for everyone. Bruno was warm, engaging, and genuinely interesting to talk to. He shared parts of his own story—moving from Brazil to Portugal—which added a personal dimension to the tour, and we loved having thoughtful, wide-ranging conversations with him, including some surprisingly engaging geopolitical discussions along the way. His storytelling brought Porto to life, and he showed us places we never would have discovered on our own. We did a tuk-tuk tour in Lisbon earlier in our trip, and it didn’t even come close to this experience. Bruno truly set the bar. If you’re visiting Porto—especially with kids—this tour is an absolute must.

5.00Bruno took my boyfriend and I on the most magical tuk tuk tour at sunset on New Year’s Eve. His calm energy and sense of humor added such joy to the tour, along with his knowledge of history and architecture. His tuk tuk is a 2-seater in the back, which we wanted to have a more private experience. It was the perfect end to the year, and we are delighted to know such a wonderful soul! Bruno is the best!

5.00Brilliant tuk tuk experience from start to finish. Took us to all the places we hadn’t had chance to see and provided great information too, was such a great way to get around the city quicker. We only booked the tuk tuk the night before and the day we did it was meant to be Bruno’s day off, but he was happy to still do the tour for me and my mom. Great service and great tour all around. Thanks Bruno. We hope to come back to the beautiful city of Porto at some point we loved it so much!
