5.00On my first ever trip to Mauritius I found this wonderful cooking experience on Airbnb and I cannot praise Avi, Jaya and their lovely family enough for taking care of my parents and I. As a Mauritian Australian, I was eager to experience and learn more about the culture and history of Mauritius. We were welcomed into Avi and Jaya’s home with a cup of tea and some traditional Mauritian sweets. Avi then explained a brief overview of Mauritius’ history all the way up to how it came to be today. Afterwards, Jaya took us for a walk through their garden to pick some ingredients that we would be using in the fish curry. We also had the honour of preparing a fresh tuna fish in our curry that was their first ever catch! We were also provided with some delicious rum and citrus cocktails and danced along to some traditional Mauritian sega music. Afterwards, we all sat down to enjoy the delicious fish curry that we had prepared and cooked together. Jaya also sent us home with some beautiful fruits from her garden. To summarise, it was a wonderful experience, and a great way to learn more about Mauritian culture. Jaya and Avi were welcoming, kind and knowledgeable hosts and it was an absolute pleasure to prepare this delicious meal with them. We would highly recommend this experience to other travellers as a must-do experience in Mauritius!
