Laguna Esmeralda
The Laguna Esmeralda is one of the most impressive natural destinations in Tierra del Fuego. Surrounded by a majestic landscape of mountains and Tierra del Fuego forests, its name comes from the emerald green color of its waters, which reflect the purity and serenity of the environment. The trail to the lagoon is a unique experience for lovers of trekking and nature. Along the way we also see the beaver dams and learn about the history of the beaver, an introduced animal, and its current impact on the ecosystem. We come across various birds representative of the environments we will be crossing. Finally, after a pleasant walk, we arrive at the incredible Laguna Esmeralda where you can admire its striking blue-green color due to its glacial origin. Here we take a break. We will have time to take photos, walk along the coast of the lagoon and regain energy with a delicious picnic on the shores of the lagoon and then return on our way to the city.

This is a moderate hike both in distance and steepness. We went on a "dry" day in February. It had not rained in several days and the trail was dry and the muddy spots were small and few. The entire character of this hike would change with recent rain or snow--then expect mud and lots of it. The scenery is beautiful and the lake is cold and green. Dress in layers and expect windy conditions. Our guide kept a good pace and used rest breaks as teaching moments. It was a very enjoyable experience!

Excellent excursion. The guys from Explore pick you up at your lodgings and take you with a guide to make the hike. We had Gise who was a tenner. They give you a food, bottle of water, a glass and start the road. Landscape one cuter than the other, amazing everything. Gise apart from guiding us along the safest paths explained flora and fauna, all super interesting.

We had a great 5-6 hour experience. The office was only a short walk from the cruise shop doc. Our guide, Julie, was great. Ask for her!

Great hike. We'll worth the effort to see such a beautiful place. The guide was very good, but I wish we would have taken a few breaks on the way back. It was definitely hard on the knees with all the rocks and roots going down hill. Would definitely recommend this tour, but beware it is definitely a little more difficult than the description says.

We had a great experience. We had a professional bilingual guide, very knowledgeable. We also took it easy, going at a reasonable speed for those who couldn’t go too fast. Know that there’s a lot of mud on the trails. Be prepared.

We were given trekking poles (1 or 2 depending on your preference) which I found helpful to steady yourself on the hike. It starts easy and flat, then you're climbing up through the tree line and it was rather steep in places but you can take your time and stop to rest. It's flat again crossing the peat bog (on wooden platforms) but then there is a very steep part just before reaching the lagoon. Your guide will assist you if needed in certain challenging spots and lend you a hand. The lagoon is beautiful and you spend up to an hour sitting and eating a sandwich they've given you and an alfajores cookie. You can also have coffee or tea to warm you up. Be aware that depending on the weather, you might get chilled sitting here so bring layers. The hike back is much faster as you're not stopping for photos like on the way in. Overall, it was about 2 hours in and 1.25 hours back. I'm not in great shape and while challenging in the uphill portions, was able to do it just fine with occasional stops to catch my breath.

A BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE, I exceed my expectations. Trekking is simple for the whole family. Upon reaching the lagoon there are amazing views. It was my turn as a guide manu, who was able to answer all the questions of the ride. Includes a little sandwich and an alfajor of Calafate delicious! I'd come back a thousand times
