By taking this trekking tour with us we ensure that the experience will not only be the wonderful landscape that surrounds us, but that the guides who are part of EXPLORE are naturalists who love Southern Patagonia and we will ensure that your visit is also interpretive of nature. We like to walk, explore, learn and teach Tierra del Fuego to our visitors. We do hikes with small groups, we take the time to enjoy each site we visit, and we take safety, professionalism and care of nature as a priority on our tours.

What To Expect

Laguna Esmeralda

The Laguna Esmeralda is one of the most impressive natural destinations in Tierra del Fuego. Surrounded by a majestic landscape of mountains and Tierra del Fuego forests, its name comes from the emerald green color of its waters, which reflect the purity and serenity of the environment. The trail to the lagoon is a unique experience for lovers of trekking and nature. Along the way we also see the beaver dams and learn about the history of the beaver, an introduced animal, and its current impact on the ecosystem. We come across various birds representative of the environments we will be crossing. Finally, after a pleasant walk, we arrive at the incredible Laguna Esmeralda where you can admire its striking blue-green color due to its glacial origin. Here we take a break. We will have time to take photos, walk along the coast of the lagoon and regain energy with a delicious picnic on the shores of the lagoon and then return on our way to the city.

Inspiring scenery, good workout, knowledgeable guide, lunch by the Laguna. Hard pressed to find a better way to spend five hours of a day in Ushuaia.

The journey to Laguna Esmeralda was fantastic! The company had good arrangements beforehand like asking the food preference, picking up location and time, and information for what to prepare for hike. And the guide (Franco) was also very friendly and informative Generally the hike was easy with few steps. And we were lucky to have a sunny weather. Everything was perfect. And the lunch that the company prepared for us was delicious too!

Our trek to Laguna Esmeralda in Ushuaia was absolutely beautiful, and having Juan as our guide made it even better. He was extremely knowledgeable and took us different route options to reach the lagoon and back so we could maximize what we experienced. Juan also tailored the entire tour to our group — adjusting the pace, sharing insights about the fauna and flora along the way, and making sure everyone felt comfortable. At one point, one of our guys who is a Leo, slipped on the trail, and Juan reacted immediately, helping him up. This made him a hero. Highly recommend this tour — and if you get Juan, you’re in great hands!

Very slippery and muddy. But worth the view! Great knowledgeable guide and fabulous lunch to enjoy once we hit the destination. Being picked up at our hotel was perfect.

Incredible experience, we were passed to look for super punctual, the trekking itself has wonderful views, the guide Juan was great, the snack they gave was very rich. They were always attentive to us carrying what was necessary and after the trip. I definitely recommend it!

Incredible hike! Violeta was a competent and informative guide. She managed multiple languages, taught us about the flora and fauna and helped us across some very muddy patches. Very much enjoyed the trek and the time at the lagoon.

The guide Violeta was wonderful. She knew a lot about the area and was very helpful towards people in the group who were struggling while walking. The hike itself was beautiful too with the highlight that is Laguna Esmeralda. Unfortunately the laguna was not in an emerald color because of the weather, but nothing we could do about that. Also a good lunch and tea!
