Have you always been keen on learning which strength helped the Vietnamese triumph over a much more powerful force – the U.S army – in the American War (or the Vietnam War as you might know it)? Are you ready to go back in time to witness what living in between two lines feels like? How has life changed for war survivors since? In this tour, you will get to crawl through the narrow passages of the tunnels and meet with "time witnesses".
Ky Anh tunnels are a unique historical gem, where you’ll experience firsthand the hand-dug tunnel system crafted with hammers and chisels during the Vietnam War in the 1960s. you’ll feel the authenticity through dimly lit passages, shallow water pools, and gripping stories of the village’s ingenious warning systems. The tunnels were dug by the resistance side (Northern Vietnam) from 1965 to 1967 and have a total length of approximately 32 km, weaving their way under the villages, going through houses, straw piles, bamboo bushes and canals to create a hidden, underground world so that the U.S army would not be able to detect them.

Vincent did a fantastic ob of taking us to see the 32 km of tunnels that were so critical to the local people during the war. We had the great pleasure to meet Mr. Tan, a veteran Vietcong soldier who was 17 at the time and who helped dig these tunnels. He'd lost his parents and brother in the conflict and yet could not be a nicer person. He explained how for them it was a battle for survival and explained some of the ingenious ways they used to warn of enemy patrols and to spot enemy troops. It was an extremely powerful and memorable experience. Thank you!

Highly recommend this tour to the Ky Anh tunnels. If youre interested in learning first hand about some real history of the war, this tour is a must. Vincent our guide picked us up in Hoi An and on the drive gave us some background history of the tunnels and history of the Vietnam war generally. On arrival you meet Mr Tan who fought in the war and actually worked on digging the tunnels for the Viet Cong. He's such an interesting person with a wealth of personal first hand experience to share. Vincent acts as his translator. Then you can go down into the tunnels and experience the cramped conditions. It's our most interesting tour of the holiday so far.

Vincent gave a very interesting and informative tour of the Viet Cong tunnels in Tam Ky. It was an extra layer of authenticity to hear directly from a Viet Cong veteran about his memories of the tunnels and the war.

This tour was truely memorable and an authentic experience, this tour highlighted the honest lived experience of the Vietnam people. We visited historical sites, tasted local cuisine and met a vietcom who shared his story. Explored the tunnels and learnt about the massacre of Son My. Highly recommend this tour- safe, friendly guide, experience driver and worth the money. Support local and bring more knowledge of the trauma of the Son My people.

Absolutely loved this experience! Visiting the Ky Anh tunnels with Mr. Thom was like stepping into living history—his stories about the war were incredibly powerful. Vinh, the tour guide, even brings his own wartime equipment to share, which was a real highlight. The Cham tower was stunning—far better preserved than My Son and seriously impressive. Vinh went above and beyond to make sure I was happy and all my questions answered - nothing was too much. Off the beaten path, uncrowded, and a must-do for any history lover.

Anyone who really wants to get an authentic impression of the fighting and living conditions of the people during this terrible war should visit this tunnel complex. Without the usual tourist hustle and bustle, we were shown the facilities in a small group by a survivor of the war. We learned many details about the organization of the Viet Cong from him and our well-informed guide Vincent and were able to visit original tunnel sections under the temple and in the jungle. They learned how the ventilation of the many kilometers long tunnels took place, how the communication and supply took place. An impressive experience far from tourist streams , that keeps the memory of the achievement of this people alive for their freedom.
