This tour is highly customizable, with optional add-ons such as a bilingual guide (English–Spanish) and stays in heated hotels. Whether you love photography, are traveling as a couple or with family, or simply want to explore the world’s largest salt flat with extra comfort, this tour is an excellent choice.

When booking, you can choose to end the tour in Uyuni or continue to Chile with a transfer to San Pedro de Atacama. Accommodation options include private rooms with bathrooms in either hotels or hostels, depending on your preference. During the trip, you’ll travel approximately 560 miles (900 km) in a private 4x4 vehicle, ensuring a safe and high-quality experience.

Train Cemetery

Your driver will pick you up from your accommodation in Uyuni between 9:00 and 10:00 AM. Shortly after the tour begins, you’ll visit the Train Cemetery, where old locomotives lie abandoned, forming a striking scene set against the vast desert. This unique site also reflects the period when Uyuni once enjoyed significant economic prosperity.

Colchani

Colchani, known as the gateway to the Uyuni Salt Flats, is a small town along the route that you’ll visit during the tour. Here, you’ll find the Salt Museum and the refinery, where you can learn about how salt is processed. Before continuing your journey, take some time to explore the local artisan shops, where handmade products crafted from alpaca wool and salt are available.

12:00 PM - Now it’s time to head into the Salt Flats! You’ll visit the salt piles, the “Ojos del Salar,” and the Playa Blanca Museum, a unique structure built entirely from salt blocks. Once you arrive, be sure to have your camera ready—the photos will be incredible. Your driver can also help capture the perfect shots, making sure you look your best in every picture.

Isla Incahuasi

1:00 PM - In the middle of the vast salt expanse lies a small hill—almost like an island—home to a unique ecosystem of towering cacti known as “cardones.” Thanks to its elevation, the island offers stunning panoramic views of the Salt Flat, making it an ideal place to pause, reflect, or take more memorable photos. You’ll also have time to explore the island at your own pace, walking along its trails and, if the weather allows, enjoying lunch at the base of the hill.

As the day progresses and you check off each stop on your itinerary, the thought of a comfortable bed at your accommodation will surely be welcome. Before sitting down for dinner and turning in for the night, take a moment to enjoy the unforgettable sunset over the Salt Flats—a truly magical way to end the day.

Laguna Canapa

7:00 AM - Rise and shine! Today begins early. After breakfast, you’ll set off in a 4x4 to visit the San Cristobal Church. From there, continue to the Valley of Rocks and Sora Canyon, with the Ollague Volcano visible in the distance. Your journey then takes you to the Cañapa, Hedionda, Honda, and Ramadita lagoons, also known as the altiplanic or colored lagoons. At each stop, your driver will allow time for you to take in the beauty of these unique landscapes.

Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve of Andean Fauna

9:00 AM - The journey continues with a visit to the Eduardo Abaroa National Andean Fauna Reserve, located at an impressive altitude of over 16,400 feet (5,000 meters) above sea level. Next, you’ll explore the Siloli Desert, known for its striking volcanic landscapes, vibrant colors, and the iconic Stone Tree. At the end of the day, you’ll arrive at the lodge, where you can enjoy dinner and relax for the night.

Geiser Sol de la Manana

4:30 AM - On your final day, start with an early breakfast before heading to Laguna Colorada, home to vibrant pink flamingos. Continue the morning at the Sol de la Mañana geyser field, where you’ll encounter remarkable geothermal formations. The fumaroles are particularly impressive in the early hours, when the temperature contrast makes them stand out even more.

7:00 AM - The final stop on your itinerary is one of the most enjoyable: the Polques hot springs, where you can relax in natural thermal waters while taking in the incredible surrounding landscape. Howlanders tip: The contrast between the cold air and the hot water is especially noticeable during the winter months (June to September), so be sure to dry off quickly after bathing. It’s also a good idea to have a sweet snack beforehand to help maintain your blood pressure. After your swim, continue to the Salvador Dalí Desert to visit the Green and White Lagoons. From here, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the Licancabur Volcano—be sure to capture a few photos to remember the moment.

San Pedro de Atacama

(OPTIONAL) If you wish, you can end the tour in San Pedro de Atacama (Chile). After the last visit on the itinerary, the driver will take you to the Bolivia–Chile border. From there, you can continue your journey to San Pedro de Atacama by regular bus or private transport, both available at an additional cost. Arriving at San Pedro around 4 PM. This logistics is not included in the tour booking and must be arranged directly at the destination before the tour begins. The local team will assist you in coordinating schedules and transportation according to your preference.

Uyuni

We will start the road back to Uyuni which crosses the Black Lagoon, the Valley of Rocks, and the San Cristobal village church. We will arrive in Uyuni town around 7 p.m. After that, you will put an end to this incredible experience of the Uyuni Salt Flats tour.
