The inner town has 26 hectares and was built according to the ancient traditions of Central Asian town building, as a regular rectangle (650 by 400 meters) elongated from south to north and closed by brick fortification walls that are up to ten meters high. Ichan Kala was the site of the khan's palace. High officials and clergy and rich merchants used to live here. The ordinary people, small merchants, craftsmen and peasants lived in Dishan Kala
Kalta Minor Minaret
The minaret is well regarded, thanks to its unique decor and its incompleteness. The Kalta-minor is a unique minaret completely covered with glazed tile and majolica. It was commissioned in 1851 by Mohammed Amin Khan, the ruler of Khiva, as an architectural marvel intended to rise over 70 meters. But the construction stopped at a height of 29 m, which is why the name the Kalta-minor (or Short minaret) was assigned to it.
Citadel Kunya-ark
Kunya Ark is a fortified citadel at the heart of Khiva, nestled against the western ramparts of the Ichan Kala immediately north of the city's west gate. Originally built as early as the 12th century, the nucleus of its current layout was first constructed by Arang Khan (r. 1688-94). The Ark is the largest of Khiva's myriad buildings.

The Kalyan Minaret is the last surviving fragment of the Kara-khanid era mosque built by Mohammad Arslan Khan in 1127, predating the Mongol conquests. Standing tall at 45.6 meters, this unlikely survivor of the city's early days—which so astonished Genghis Khan that he refused to order its destruction—continues to serve as the centerpiece of the city at the Po-i-Kalyan square.
Ark of Bukhara
The Ark, a royal town-within-a-town, is Bukhara’s oldest structure, it was home to the rulers of Bukhara for over a millennium. The Ark is as old as Bukhara itself. The founding of the original fortress is blurred in antiquity, but it was certainly the focus around which developed the medieval town.

From the first interactions with Amir, I had a very good feeling about this trip. He was detail oriented and proactive. The tour was incredibly well organized, and all the drivers were always waiting for us when we arrived at our destinations. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and excited to share their love for Uzbekistan. We especially loved our guide in Tashkent who went above and beyond to provide us with an authentic experience there. The order of the tour is perfect and I would suggest ending in Samarkand (they are happy to customize and add any location you would like). We added in a day tour to Seven Lakes in Tajikistan. It is so beautiful there, but just be prepared for a bumpy road! We have done a significant amount of traveling, and we were both so impressed with this tour. Amir truly does everything he can to make sure all their guests have the best possible time in Uzbekistan. I can honestly say this trip exceeded our expectations in every way. If you are considering a trip to Uzbekistan, I highly recommend this tour!

Amir fr Silk tours was extremely helpful and arranged excellent guides for us. They were all very knowledgeable, namely Tulkin in Khiva, Behrus in Bukhara, Jusra in Samarkhand and Nusrat in Tashkent. They were made sure we visited all the historical places. And also introduced good places to eat their local cuisines. I had some problem while flying out of Tashkent. Amir spoke to the officer and helped me to ease the clearance. I will definitely booked tours again through him and his tour agency.

Well organized tour with nice hotels and very good guides. Amazing Islamic architecture. The old town section of Khiva is out of this world. Uzbekistan is a safe and clean country, the locals are honest and proud with no harassment to buy good or services. I also highly recommend the extra day tour from Samarkand to the 7 lakes in Tajikistan. Keep in mind that the train stations can be somewhat chaotic so it is important to have the names of the hotels available in advance in case you miss your assigned driver; taxis are really inexpensive.
