Alessandra brought us to two small family owned wineries. On the way she gave us some facts about the area and the wine. We were able to see the process of wine making and taste many local wines and enjoyed some snacks. But the best part was the passion that was evident at each winery. They take great pride in their wines. After the tastings Alessandra was kind enough to give us a recommendation for dinner which also turned out to be great. I would highly recommend this tour.

Although I am not a big fan of wine, I knew I had to try it during my trip to Verona. Valpolicella, one of the most important wine regions in Italy, was nearby and, most importantly, it is the hometown of Amarone. Stefano, the guide and driver, is a great connoisseur of the wine and wineries in the region, and it was noticeable he liked to talk about wine in his particular Italian style. He drove us to two wineries to see the different styles of wine production. We also tried different wines, including Amarone, and to my surprise, I liked the hidden gems of Valpolicella wine, and the "parent" of Amarone. As promised to Stefano, I will not reveal the spoiler; you need to try it yourself. 😉

I wrote a previous review of this tour and want to add an update. I still stand by my 5 star rating for the tour itself...see previous review. BUT we ordered a lot of wine from each winery and had it shipped through Pagus. VERY EXPENSIVE to ship wine home. Over $21 per bottle, tariffs were $6 of that but $15 per bottle for shipping. While the wine was very good not sure it is worth the extra charge. Only buy what you can take home on the plane

A really enjoyable trip that ended up being much longer than planned as the conversation flowed as did 10 splendid wines. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, having done this tour for many years and also being a history and geography masters graduate. The guides at the vineyards were so welcoming, informative and desperate to share their passion for the wine making process. I certainly came away having learnt a lot about the region, the subtle differences and process that all go into the end product. I would fully recommend to anyone interested in wine and without any of the hard-sell from the vineyard owners. Such a shame we had traveled with just hand luggage!!

Stefano was our driver/guide, he was friendly and very knowledgeable. We first visited a medium size winery and later a small family winery. Both very different but equally fascinating. We toured the vineyards, the cellars and were given very interesting facts and explanations about their grapes, and the production and storage process. On each we sampled great wines, offered with cheese and meats. Great experience, amazing wines and a wonderful guide. A MUST DO while in Verona. Highly recommend
