What To Expect

This Tour is for the Railway and Great House Tour Narrated Train 25 minute return Journey that includes views of the Great House, Plantation Fields, Mahogany Woodlands, Lush Hidden Valley, Cliff Cutting into Limestone Quarry culminating at the Iconic Panoramic View From Cherry Tree Hill where there is a 15-minute stopover and passengers can participate in turning the Locomotive for the return journey and also explore a local vendors Market at the top of the hill while taking in the spectacular view of the wild Atlantic coastline of the Eastern side of the island. The tour continues with the Great House and Distillery which is a Guided Tour or may be self guided.

This was a trip I wanted to do for the past 5 years and it was perfect. The train was lovely and clean. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The views and grounds were so lovely

The train ride is too short if you take the basic one of $35, not worth it plus the taxi ride is long and expensive too for such a 10 minute ride one way and 10 minutes back and the rest is just talking about the history of the place!
Do the train only, skip the rum tasting

The train is fun, even though it was really crowded. Do not recommend paying for the rum tasting. You get two small sips of the worst options and even if you’d want to buy a bottle of the older vintage there isn’t an option to try. Based on the ones we tried the quality wasn’t worth investing in the actual ones we would drink.

Superb visit to the historic places, short steam train ride and tasting of excellent quality rum with rum due to the fermentation of cane syrup, ke alone to barbados.

The views were amazing! We took lots of great photos! I took my parents while they are here for their anniversary (they are ~55 years of age) and it was very informative. Beware this excursion is on the very tip of the island, and taxi's to and fro can be pricey. Neither of them drink so we just did the Cherry Tree Hill + Great House Option (forgoing the rum tasting) and I think they had a very good time. Just FYI, sitting at the front of the train may put you in the line of fire so to speak, its a wood and coal burning engine, and there is a fair amount of smoking, and embers that are emitted during the tour. My father was wearing a white shirt, but he still managed to keep it clean, my mother was wearing open toes sandals and was surprised by an ember on her foot. She wasn't burned, just startled, so dress accordingly.

Overall, everything was great! My kids loved the train ride. They even got to blow the whistle of the train. The staff were very friendly and nice. We had a great time, the only complaint would be the train ride to the look out and back was less than 10 minutes one way. It was a bit short!

What a lovely adventure to do when on holiday to Barbados and you get to see some beautiful things and you also get to taste some rum at the end

Viator gave us the wrong time for meeting the train. We had tickets for the 2:45 pm train on March 21. We arrived 10 minutes early only to find out there was no train. The train we were told departed at 2:45 actually departed at 2 pm, so we missed it! Thank you Viator!
