On one side of Exmouth Beach, the red sandstone cliffs ascend to Orcombe Point, the official start of the Jurassic Coast – the only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site in England.
On the other side, the vibrant Exe Estuary sits teeming with birdlife, a fairly flat cycle path connecting Exmouth with the quaint village of Lympstone, the historic port of Topsham and leading all the way up to Exeter.
In the middle are countless stories of swashbuckling local pirates, smugglers offloading illicit contraband into East Devon, famous residents who found inspiration and solace in the beautiful ocean scenery and a bustling tourism industry, which was the first of its kind in the county and still prospers today.
In my walking tours, I explore Exmouth’s past, present and future, detailing the most fascinating stories from the town’s history with plenty of local recommendations for things to see and do while you’re in town.

Clare was a professional and enthusiastic guide with a real passion for her town and a wealth of knowledge to impart. The walk is a gentle stroll with beautiful scenery and stops for stories of pirates and celebrities from the past. A great way to orientate yourself on a first visit or find out more about your local area.

This was such a fantastic walking tour. Claire is a brilliant guide, really friendly and clear, and she knows her subject very well. You can tell a lot of research has gone into the tour and it's packed with interesting history - as well as anecdotes she's picked up from speaking to various experts (like the local lifeboat staff). I've been to Exmouth a few times before, but learned so much that I didn't know thanks to Claire - plus she was happy to share lots of tips for places to eat and drink etc, so this would be a great experience for anyone visiting Exmouth for the first time. Honestly I can't recommend this tour enough, a great way to discover the hidden gems of a beautiful seaside town :)

Full of fascinating characters from Exmouth past and set against the stunning backdrop of the spectacular Jurassic coastline. Claire the tour guide has spurred me on to explore more of Exmouth’s swashbuckling history and the local geography now that l am a resident. Thank you Claire!

She was very knowledgeable guide and had clearly done her homework! Lots of fun facts. She has done a lot of travelling herself and can identify with the crowd. Definitely recommend this tour.

A wonderful and incredibly informative walking tour by Claire. What really impressed was the variety of the tour; from a general overview of the origins and development of Exmouth, the coastline itself to golden nugget stories around a variety of characters through the ages who lived here. It is suitable for all ages, and Claire is super friendly and enthusiastic as we weaved are way through key parts of Exmouth. Highly recommended to make your stay in Exmouth a richer experience. Fabulous.
