This spectacular Medieval gothic ‘royal peculiar’ has hosted every coronation from William the Conqueror to Elizabeth II and seventeen royal weddings, most recently that of William and Kate. It is also the burial place of many royals and notables including feuding Tudor siblings Elizabeth and Mary, writers such as Geoffrey Chaucer, Rudyard Kipling and Charles Dickens, scientists Isaac Newton, Stephen Hawking and Charles Darwin, abolitionists, actors and the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Marvel at the 700 year old coronation chair as you learn more of this most sacred and complex ceremony, admire the craft of 16th century stonework, the portraits of modern martyrs and the grand Henry VII Lady Chapel.
Ascend the 52ft to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries where, up with the flying buttresses and ornately carved gargoyles, you’ll discover a 13th century triforium. Hidden for centuries, the galleries now tell the secrets of the abbey.

Excellent tour by Trudy! We had a wonderful time introducing our teenage boys to Westminster Abbey and having Trudy as our guide made it even better. She was full of energy, fun facts, brought history alive, and provided so much detail around every aspect of the Abbey. Most importantly she kept our boys engaged. Thank you Trudy!

This experience was amazing! We had 7 of us ranging from ages 14-51 and all enjoyed it. Such deep history, much we didn’t know before the tour. And we loved our tour guide, Edward. And being a private tour was so much better - no lines, questions answered immediately and such warmer feel.

I didn't know what to expect at Westminster Abbey, but now I know it is not like St Paul's Cathedral. It's smaller, with tourists more tightly packed inside the Abbey. There's very little room to move around freely, with hardly any room to capture good pictures. And while it is a beautiful structure, the pressing crowd prevents any time to stop and admire sites for very long. Everyone seemed to progress through in a long line snaking past the major sights. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the people and dates, but didn't really connect us to the historical significance or impact of what we were seeing. If felt a bit scripted. Maybe a bit more backstory or emphasis would have helped us to better appreciate the sites. The private tour was also shorter by about 30 minutes than I expected as well, especially for the cost. We've taken several great tours through Viator but this one was our least favorite. If I ever go back to the Abbey, I'd probably opt for the group or audio tour next time and go through at my own pace.

Without the guide we would have missed so much of the history and special items in the Abbey. You could go and wander around, but, our guide, Vivien brought history to life for us. Made the trip so much more memorable. Highly recommend!!
