Wētā Workshop has been making cool stuff for film and TV since 1987. Our crew has brought to life beloved characters and epic special effects for iconic blockbusters like The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Avatar and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Step into Wētā Workshop Experiences and explore a world of creativity, physical effects and movie magic on a guided tour through our creative home base.
You'll learn about the making of props, creatures and costumes created for your favourite films. Get hands-on with unique pieces from our many departments, catch our artists at work and discover how we’ve grown into the award-winning workshop you see today.

5.00Having never seen Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit we were hugely surprised at how much this tour presented. From humble beginnings Weta has been involved in costumes and other movie props in many movies that we had seen. The skill of the professional artists is on display, from making ghoulish prosthetics to weaponry of all genres. Our guide Ben was enthusiastic and the whole tour was well presented. We recommend this tour. We easily found free parking on the street.

5.00Our guide Hazel was lots of fun, and had all sorts of info and answers for our nerdy questions. Thank you for making our honeymoon experience an awesome one—and just a day later we saw a real life weta on our hike to Rivendell, so we feel extra lucky to have been blessed by the god of ugly creatures. Merci beaucoup!
