What To Expect
Xi'an City Wall (Chengqiang)
The City Wall, as the landmark of the ancient capital Xian, is a must-see spot for travelers. With a group of 8 people or less, your professional tour guide will bring the glorious history of Xi’an to life on this 2-hour walking tour. Your tour guide will be waiting for you at the meeting point. They will introduce you to the fascinating history and culture of this old city during the 10-minute walk to the South Gate of City Wall. If the transportation option is selected, you will be transferred by car and meet the tour guide at South Gate. Xi’an City Wall is the largest and best-preserved ancient city wall in China. It served as the military defensive system in ancient times, which can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty. After arriving at the City Wall, you can choose to explore the wall by foot or ride a bike to enjoy the panoramic views of the city and take in 600 years of history whistling past your face. Your tour guide will tell you the story hidden in corners of the wall along the way.

5.00We did the bike ride along the top of the city wall at night which was magical. It was cold and a light snow was falling which added to the enchantment. Our tour guide, Noble, who is a native of Xi’an, was a wealth of information. We learned about the history of the wall and its unique features and architecture. In preparation for the Chinese New Year there were dozens of massive lighted figures of all types of things including dragons, horses and others along the south wall. The figures were bright and colorful lending to the magic of the experience. Highly recommend this experience.

5.00Most people focus on the terracotta warriors (which are amazing by the way) but risk missing out on a very unique experience to visit the Xi'an City Wall - China's only intact ancient city wall. The history is fascinating, and when else do you get a chance to ride a bike on such an historic ancient monument!? Our tour guide Ken was extremely knowledgeable, and helped us understand more about Xi'an and the city wall. Definitely recommend this tour - you can do it quickly or take more time and stretch it out, it's up to you. Very glad we made the time to do this!
