What To Expect
Nohoch Che'en Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve
Experience a Mayan cave adventure like no other! ~ You'll start the tour at the Nohoch Che'en Reserve. Start by wading across the river (about knee deep). Once on the other side, enjoy a guided nature walk through the jungle and a dry cave as you make your way to the starting point. Double hard shell sit on top kayaks await you at the riverside. Get acquainted with your kayak as you listen in to the safety briefing. Start with a short paddle upstream to the very first cave, where the river comes up from underground. Then head downstream, guiding your kayak through the cave systems with only your headlamp to lead the way! The river winds in and out of several cave systems and finishes with an open stretch along the jungle-lined river, ending where you first waded across the river.

5.00UpClose Belize kept in touch with me, even when I ran into an issue getting a taxi they were quick to respond. Also for the price to add on the flight to and from San Pedro was completely worth it, honestly thought it would've been more. Once I got to Belize City Elmer was there waiting for me, we tried to pick up another from the Water taxi but they no showed, so I ended up with a private tour from the sweetest, most knowledgeable man. That was patient and kept me engaged, made me want to learn more. The ruins were incredible nothing this Minnesotan has ever experienced and then we stopped for lunch at this incredible lil spot where the beans/rice with stewed chicken was to die for and kept me fueled to walk to the entrance of the cave, he carried my water, offered to carry other items, took breaks when I wanted to without complaining, he was just absolutely wonderful, I can't say enough good things about Elmer, make sure to ask for him as your guide. The cave tubing was something out of this world, we got to see Jaguar prints on the way to the cave, heard a monkey, saw a thing of bats as we were like l exiting the cave, but nothing prepared me for how dark it can get in the caves, but also how stunningly beautiful the stalactites and stalagmites were throughout the cave plus there's a waterfall and a sinkhole that made this place even more magical. Highly highly recommend UpClose Belize and Elmer even more!!!

1.00DO NOT BOOK if you are in the San Pedro area. It is listed under activities in San Pedro AND lists several San Pedro locations as pick-up locations, however, this is FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. This experience was similar to others offered that was less expensive and had more/better reviews, but even though it was significantly more expensive, our group decided on this particular option based on the only experience offering San Pedro pick-up points listed to make it to this Belize City activity. When I found out we had to make it to Belize City on our own via WhatsApp, I contacted the company and informed them of the listed San Pedro pick-up points. They acknowledged that it was incorrectly listed and that there was nothing they can do about it because TripAdvisor lists their experience and TripAdvisor would not allow a refund except $50 of the $705 we spent! I use TripAdvisor to book most of my trip activities and this has NEVER happened before. I am completely upset and disappointed.

4.00The guide was amazing and knowledgeable. Helped my wife every step of the way when she was unsure. Only thing I would change is that the cost reflected all the fees. Having to carry an extra 120 dollars cash in a foreign country is another unneeded stress

5.00We actually took two tours through UpClose Belize, the ATM cave tour and the 3x combo with monkeys, zip lining and cave tubing. Words can’t express the incredible adventure that UpClose Belize provided us. The tours themselves took us through conservation, history and fun! Whether it was up in the tree tops or below ground in a cave, all the guides were knowledgeable, enthusiastic and entertaining. We especially adored Norman who was friendly and matched the energy of the group. I couldn’t imagine a better time. THANK YOU ALL! 5 stars!!!
