Stone Town
Stone Town, Zanzibar’s historic heart, is full of narrow alleys, bustling markets, and Swahili architecture. Visitors can see the Slave Market, a memorial of the island’s role in the East African slave trade, and Freddie Mercury’s house, the birthplace of the Queen singer. The House of Wonders impresses with its wooden balconies, large doors, and history as the first building with electricity and an elevator. Stone Town is famous for curved, carved doors, historic Old Fort, Forodhani Gardens with street food, and lively markets selling spices, textiles, and crafts. Mosques, temples, museums, and the waterfront harbor complete the rich cultural experience.
Prison Island - Changuu Private Island
Prison Island is a small island located about 20–30 minutes by boat from Stone Town. It is famous for its giant Aldabra tortoises, some over 100 years old, which visitors can feed and photograph. The island also has historic prison ruins, originally intended for rebellious slaves but later used as a quarantine station for diseases like smallpox and yellow fever. Visitors can walk among the ruins and learn about the island’s history. Prison Island offers clear turquoise waters and small sandy beaches.

This tour was definitely the highlight of our stay in Zanzibar. The combination of Stone Town, Spice Farm and Prison Island was perfectly organized and very varied. In Stone Town we learned a lot about the history and culture and were able to discover the narrow streets and special buildings in peace. At the spice farm it was fascinating to see, smell and taste the different spices, fruits and plants up close – a truly special experience. The visit to Prison Island with the giant turtles and the beautiful, clear water was simply fantastic. Special praise goes to our guide Ramadan. He was very friendly, competent and explained everything understandably and interestingly. You could tell that he puts in a lot of effort and does his work with passion. Thanks to him, the tour was not only informative, but also very enjoyable and entertaining. We can absolutely recommend this tour and would do it again anytime!

The excursion was great organized! Our driver was super friendly and showed us a lot during the trip! The two tour guides (Spice Farm and Stone Town) even spoke German! Ramadan in particular impressed us with his extensive knowledge, including about the history of the city. We had a wonderful day!
