The river canyon, Glerárgil, is a hidden gem of nature splitting the town of Akureyri through the middle. We have made the protected area accessible with a thoughtfully designed trail and five ziplines, in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way.

I stopped in Akureyri during my cruise through western Iceland and Greenland and have always wanted to zipline in Iceland. It was easily one of the best excursions I made on the trip. The location has beautiful views and the whole experience went way beyond what I expected. It was an easy walk from the port for me, although it was around 45 minutes, and the guides greeted me right away with a quick safety rundown. They were friendly, professional, and clearly loved what they do. I rode all their ziplines and each one offering a slightly different view over the Glerárgil River and canyon. Flying above the water and looking down at the scenery was incredible with equal parts peaceful and thrilling. The guides were entertaining and sharing their personal immigration stories to Iceland and their other jobs. They also made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe. What I really liked was how approachable the experience was. It’s perfect for beginners but still exciting enough for anyone who loves adventure. Afterward, the owners arrived and gave me tips on where to eat and what to see around Akureyri, which added such a personal touch. If you’re visiting Akureyri, this is an absolute must. It’s the perfect mix of nature, excitement, and genuine Icelandic hospitality. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

What an amazing experience!! Guides Elfa and Sabrina were so friendly, helpful, and a knowledgeable. The ziplines are so much fun and over a stunning river. Highly recommend! Walked from cruise port, it is up hill and took about 45min. It’s do able.

The father/daughter team was wonderful! We were a small group, just 3 people. They treated us wonderfully! Both are friendly, kinda and very knowledgeable. We hiked to each zip line, about 3-4 minutes each time. On our way we learned some history of the area and even learned a bit about the language. It was a wonderful experience!!

We had a fantastic time ziplining. We were beginners and had never done this before. The guides were great, giving us different options of things we could do on the line. Great time, would recommend to anyone.

The guides were absolutely great - really entertaining and informative, and just such nice people! We all really enjoyed this, it a unique way to enjoy the landscape and learn a little about the area at the same time! It was super safe and no pressure to do any fancy moves down the zip line - but they did show us how to if we wanted to. I’d absolutely recommend this to anyone, it was a great way to spend an afternoon :-)
