Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau

5.00We were picked up by Damian, he drove us in his black Mercedes vehicle. He was very polite, civil and friendly, that you. I have never been to visit a Nazi Concentration camp. I was moved beyond all belief. The scale of the atrocities isn't really imaginable until you see the sites in person. How on earth humans can do this to each other is beyond all comprehension. Auschwitz is a fraction of the size of Birkenau and we saw the personal item of those taken, never to return; glasses, shoes, suitcases (some with names and date of births on as they were told they would be returned to them), the shoes they wore, each one contained a life until all semblance of individuality, identity and humanity was taken away, We saw the Cyclone B gas cannisters used in the chambers; preserved for all to see as a reminder of the catastrophic genocidal ideology of one deranged man. Birkenau is 5 times the scale. We stood where everyone disembarked off the trains and this is where you were sent left or right. Left meant you went straight to your death, sent right and you went to one of the camp buildings and had your fate prolonged in horrendous conditions. It was a somber, sobering experience and our guide was excellent. Thank you for your time, patience and interpersonal skills. She spoke in such a calm manner, but was able to create and evoke thoughts, feelings and imagery of what went on. I'm so grateful to her. (Sorry I didn't get your name). I would highly recommend this trip. If you value humanity as much as those of us who attended, you need to come, so that this never happens again and we never ever forget the horrendous crimes committed
