• Mixed Experience – Worth it for Some Stops, But Not All

  This full-day tour offers a packed itinerary through several iconic sites in Oaxaca, and while there were definitely some highlights, there were also a few letdowns that are worth noting. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the region, which made the ride enjoyable. The Tule Tree was a nice stop and easy to do on your own if you're planning to visit local markets nearby. Teotitlán del Valle was fascinating — watching the weaving and natural dye process was impressive and authentic, but the pieces were quite pricey, so be prepared if you're hoping to buy something. Mitla was the highlight for me. The ruins are beautiful and packed with history, definitely worth seeing with a guide who can explain their significance. Hierve el Agua, while famous, was underwhelming. The water level is very low, and without swimming (which we didn’t do), it felt a bit boring and overcrowded. There’s a short hike involved either way to get closer to the formations, so wear proper shoes. The mezcal tasting at a local distillery was fun, but it felt more like a sales stop than an educational one. The mezcal was good, but it’s one of many regional brands. One major disappointment was the buffet lunch — we were under the impression it was included, but it wasn’t, and the food was just okay. At around $10 USD per person, it didn’t feel worth it. There was a surprise bakery stop early on that we actually really enjoyed — it was great for grabbing snacks, coffee, bread, or chocolate for the long trip ahead. All in all, it’s a long day with a few memorable moments. I’d recommend this tour if you're looking for a convenient way to see several sites in one day, but manage your expectations — and maybe pack your own lunch or buy something along the way. Also, there are restrooms at all the stops, I know that is sometimes a worry for some, but most places charge between 5 and 7 pesos.

  The tour all in all was nice. I just thought it was too expensive. Also hearing conversations on the bus it seemed that people paid different fees for the same tour….
