• Great Experience - One Rude Crew Member

  We booked the “Morning Kealakekua Snorkel Tour” for this past Friday. This was our first excursion on the Big Island. For the most part, it was a good experience. The ride to Captain Cook was relaxing and scenic, our Captain was cool and funny, and most of the crew members were nice and friendly. The reason for deducting 2 stars was due to one crew member. I was sitting upstairs and had been careful to place all of my trash in the correct bins (3 different containers: Landfill, Compostable, and Recycle). Later when I went downstairs to refill my drink, I threw some napkins into the middle trash bin, because that was where the "compostable" bin was located upstairs. I didn’t realize the bins downstairs were arranged differently. A young crew member, blonde hair gentleman saw me do this and said really loud "that goes in compostable!" I immediately went over to the recycle bin to correct my mistake and tried to reach into the bin to retrieve the napkins. He saw me do this and looked at me to see if I was able to….not offering to help or make any suggestions. I am a shorter woman with arms that could not reach all the way to the bottom even though I tried. My husband is 6’ and I don’t think he would have been able to reach to the bottom either. I apologized and explained that I couldn’t reach the napkins and I told him that I would be more mindful and double check the labels in all bins in the future. His response was "You don't need to remember, it's written all over the trash bins!" The comment came across as unnecessarily rude and condescending. I acknowledged my mistake, made an effort to correct it and apologized so I didn’t feel there was any need for the conversation to continue in that tone. After this incident, I started paying attention to how other guests were disposing of their trash and I noticed that many people were placing items into the wrong bins as well. It seemed that there was some confusion about the sorting system. While this interaction did not overshadow the many positive aspects of the tour, customer service plays an important role in the overall guest experience. Especially for those who are on vacation with their family and trying to make good memories. Guests should be treated with courtesy and respect, especially when they have acknowledged and taken responsibility for an honest mistake. Maybe this crew member was an off day, but the interaction still left me feeling unnecessarily criticized after I had already apologized and tried to correct the mistake, which is why I felt it was important for me to mention it in this review and for giving this tour 3 stars.

  The crowd snorkeling experience was ah ok The most impressive part of this experience was the crew and boat they were very attentive to everyone's needs, communicated clearly and good with the kids, never saw any staff just standing around, the first mate was particularly good with everyone and informative The food was different and well done Fairwinds is a good value for the experience

  We did this tour on the morning of 6/12/26 They really do their best to make this a comfortable experience. There are two nice bathrooms on board. They serve breakfast, which was fresh fruit, oatmeal and banana bread.. all very good. They serve lunch and they have delish POG juice to go with it. The snorkeling was really great. We didn’t see turtles, but this was the best and most variety of fish we have seen while snorkeling on the islands. And the coral reef is amazing and beautiful! The crew is helpful and kind and polite. we really enjoyed this tour! Thank you!

  We had a great time on this tour! We had plenty of time to snorkel and relax in the water. Easy to get in the water and loved having tubes. Worth every penny! Other boats did not look as fun as this one. The food was good but just wish we could’ve had some non plant based options. However, I would still book again. Highly recommend!!

  Amazing. Crew was fantastic and knowledgeable, boat was incredible with the two slides off the back and the diving platform. Fish were plentiful and even had a pod of dolphins swim through us. The boat ride out there was filled with breathtaking coastline views, the cliffs that inspired moana and always the opportunity to be visited by marine life.   Great experience the food the vibe the equipment included the strong mai tai were good the slide for the kids and most of all we saw dolphins and a whale shark.

  Absolutely amazing! I went back and forth with which company to use and am so glad I chose this one!!! Food was good, crew was attentive, and the equipment felt safe. The bonus of the whale shark was over the top!! Sorry Joe! 🤪

  Fantastic. Does anything more need saying? Well, the captain and crew were amazing. Great historical info on the way to/from the bay. The provision of breakfast and lunch was excellent. Shame no provision for Gluten Free people - but thats a minor one. We are used to providing our own things just in case! Just nice to be thought about though! Nearly 2.5 hours of snorkelling time available. That’s amazing. Water slides and diving too for those who wanted to. You could hop out the boat - grab a hot / cold drink and repeat! Loads of fish and amazing coral. What’s more to say! Do this trip and with this company.

  Experience was fantastic! The boat is quite nice, and the crew were amazing! The snorkeling is world class. Tons of beautiful fish and we even had a large pod of dolphins come into the bay during. 2.5 hours in the water was perfect. Although the boat holds 90 people, was definitely not too crowded in the water. Plenty of room to enjoy. Would definitely book again!
