Excellent value and best option to view and learn about Bath. The bus has many stops and a wealth of information and history via the headset guided tour. The hop on and off has great timed routes so we could see the inside route (1) and outskirts route (2) of the beautiful city.

Great day out in Bath and the buses come quite often. Very helpful and polite staff. Commentary is very good and explains everything as you go along. Would recommend this tour.

We booked a 48 hour ticker for 2 adults and 1 child in Bath. The email came through on our phone while we were out in the city that our tickets were ready to use on 6/7, but there was no QR code attached on the email or on the link you clicked in the email that took you to the viator.com page. I tried to take a screenshot showing that 3 48 hour tickets had been purchased with the booking number, but no Hop on Hop off Bus drivers would let us on that 1st day without a QR code so we paid for a service we could not access during the 1st 48 hours. The drivers told us we should try to cancel the tickets through viator and buy then directly from them to ride the bus, but we were not able to cancel the tickets bc it was not 24 hours before the day they were to be used. Viator should refund the ticket cost for the 1st day of the 48 hour tickets as we were not allowed on the buses without a QR code that was sent on the 2nd day. I'm attaching all that was shown on my phone when the email was sent and on the Viator.com site, no QR code to use

Although City Sightseeing usually caters to visitors from abroad, beware that the Bath Hop On Hop Off only runs in English (as at June 2026). The buses are all equipped with multi-language audio guide systems, so I assume they did have translations at some point but the current tour recording hasn’t yet been translated to other languages. Giving this a one star due to poor customer service we experienced when dealing with the company in relation to the matter. I would recommend to purchase tickets on sight only rather than online like we did.

A good way to get an overview of the city and surrounding countryside. Unlike other tours the commentary is delivered through headphones. A good way to spend a few hours if doing both tours on the one ticket.

Pick up location options were difficult to find. There wasn't alot of stops and at times the commentary was out of sync with our location but the views and information given in the commentary were great

I am writing to formally complain about the conduct of one of your drivers on Saturday 23 May 2026 in central Bath. I boarded the sightseeing bus with my daughter after asking the driver whether I could pay the local fare to travel to The Circus, where I live. This was declined by your driver. I explained that I have used this service several times before and have previously been charged a local fare without issue. The driver informed me that locals were not permitted to use the service unless they had a local card. I then showed him my Discovery Card and asked again whether myself and my daughter could board the bus. We were eventually allowed onto the bus. As we boarded, the driver loudly said “Jesus Christ” in an aggressive and frustrated tone behind us. We took our seats quietly on the lower deck at the front of the bus and did not engage with him further. Shortly afterwards, while passengers were seated waiting for departure, the driver repeatedly called over his radio or phone stating “3636, 3636, if you don’t answer I’m going to walk off the job.” He then began telling management or colleagues that there were “two very aggressive local passengers” on the bus and that he was refusing to drive. This was entirely false. Neither myself nor my daughter behaved aggressively, raised our voices, made threats, or caused any disturbance whatsoever. Other passengers on the bus appeared confused and shocked by what was being said, and some were visibly looking around trying to understand who he was referring to. As we asked each other what is going on… The driver continued escalating the situation, repeatedly claiming we were aggressive despite the fact we were simply sitting silently in our seats. He contacted the police and reported that he had aggressive passengers onboard. I heard him admit that no threats had been made, yet he still insisted he wanted us removed from the bus. A second driver then attended the bus and asked us what had happened. Even at this stage, the original driver continued making accusations about our behaviour. He became increasingly agitated, pacing, shaking, and making comments including “I’m autistic, you’re discriminating against me” and “look at your behaviour.” Again another false accusation and having a diagnosis of autism myself I find this statement extremely disturbing. At no stage did I respond aggressively or engage in confrontation. As a member of the local government, I found the entire situation extremely concerning and wholly disproportionate. I was particularly distressed that this occurred in front of my daughter. The second driver handled the matter professionally and kindly offered for us to transfer onto his bus instead, which we accepted. Even after we had left the original vehicle, the first driver still refused to continue service and continued making hostile remarks toward us while passengers looked on in disbelief. The second driver then asked all the passengers to board his bus if they chose too and they all did. I also wish to note that I recorded the incident in full. I am deeply disturbed by the driver’s conduct, his false allegations, his misuse of police involvement, and the distress caused to both myself and my child. His behaviour appeared unstable, confrontational, and entirely inappropriate for somebody responsible for public passenger transport. I would like this complaint to be fully investigated. I also strongly recommend that this driver receives additional training in customer service, conflict management, equality, and professional conduct. I would appreciate confirmation that this complaint has been received, details of how it will be investigated, and what actions will be taken moving forward.

During our month-long holiday, we had taken a number of hop-on-hop-off bus tours, they have been a great way to see a town or city, particularly if we only had limited time. Bath bus wasn't the best one we've been on. Commentary was a little late, we ended up going through residential areas and driving up steep back roads to apparently see the city from higher up, pity the trees have grown so much, you can't actually see anything. That part was pointless, boring, and I felt uncomfortable being in a large bus going through residential areas that were not part of the main city.

Seen in all major cities, the Red Open Top buses are a must for my wife and I and great to get around quickly before deciding where to visit for more detail. Two routes operate in Bath, a city and a rural with one ticket doing both. The tickets are valid for 2 hours so you can opt to do both routes in one day or if you time things right, you have something to see on successive days. We decided to do both on the one day with the option of walking or using a service bus if we wanted to revisit any of the area which took our interest. The city route is an eye opener as the have to navigate streets that are not only narrow, but have cars parked in the most obstructive places – but the drivers are amazing. It’s almost worth the ticket price to see these folks in action. On one occasion, a head to head confrontation could have been in the offing between our bus and a huge Artic. The bus turned the corner into a narrow street with cars parked right up to the junction. The artic was halfway along and both vehicles had a string of cars behind them so reversing by either would have been a real nightmare. Driving professionals both, slowly edging a few inches each time, the pass was successful taking all of 10 minutes and at times the bodywork was so close, you would not have been able to get your hand between the vehicles. What a cheer went up when the bus could continue on its journey at proper speed. The City tour (red) takes in 16 stops including Grand Parade, Bath Spa, Queen Square, Royal Crescent, Botanic Gardens whilst the Rural (green) route visits North Parade, Great Pulteney St, Widcombe Hill, and a number of areas which grew up as Bath itself developed. The audio commentaries were excellent and extremely educational.

The tour was good but they never announced upcoming places to stop so we were often past the stop before we knew it was there. The signs for tre stops are very small and easy to miss. This was not the most user friendly Hop On Hop Off we have been on
