• Santiago Island--inside and out

  First, Susanna was our primary contact for this private car tour for two. After reviewing the standard itinerary I sought some significant modifications due to health limits plus interests. She always responded promptly with good input, and even managed connecting us with our guide and driver via effective details. (I also asked for help locating and buying a particular item, knowing our single day in port was on a Sunday which=many closed stores. She came through like a champion and I'm so grateful for her going the extra meter.) Our vehicle was a clean, comfortable taxi driven by Mr. Jocolino Wilsom. (Sp?) The roads outside of Praia present many challenges, not the least of which is farm animals suddenly appearing on the road. Every challenge from skinny, curving, cobblestone two lane roads to city traffic he handled calmly and smoothly. His skill made the day more enjoyable./// Our guide, David, was a true professional----stepping in at the last minute when the scheduled guide fell ill. He expected the usual itinerary then I shared my printout of emails with Susanna. He recalibrate quickly in coordination with our driver and off we went! David is my favorite kind of guide---in-depth knowledge (including botanical) of his country and home island, willing to share his own history, easy to chat with, great sense of humor, infinite patience with my questions, and he never sounded like he was bored or reciting a script. We were under time pressure because we had to get back on the ship or it would leave without us. They did a good job of not making us feel rushed and even tried to get permission to drop us off ship-side instead of at the port gate. All in all, we had a special day with him and have a much deeper appreciation for the Republic of Cabo Verde, its' lands, and culture. It was exactly what we hoped for.

  Jairsan was an excellent guide around the island, speaking Portuguese, English & German to cater for the group of 7. The 3 Germans sitting outside at the back of the pick-up did lose out because of not hearing the conversation in the cab & got alot of sun & wind for sensitive European skin! We saw how salt is extracted, Kite beach, Espargos, including the shanty town, Terra Boa, the 'Blue Eye', waded out to baby lemon sharks & floated in the salt lake at Pedro de Lume, with a quick local lunch. Jairsan was a larger than life character, with loads of enthusiasm, passion for his country & information. Would definitely recommend & remember to take your swim suit for wading out to see lemon sharks & swimming in the salt lake - we weren't forewarned!

  Thank you very much for this enjoyable, relaxed and beautiful trip. Both, the driver Mr. Jackson and the guide Mr. Apollo were absolute friendly, polite and warmhearted. They treat us as guests and friends. The included boat trip was a highlight. We were on time back to our cruise ship. Everything was perfect.

  As a Cape Verdean, I know little about my country, so I chose this visit to know a little more about another island and I loved the route. Susana was a spectacular guide who knew how to adapt the route in order to allow me to visit other landscapes and for that I thank her immensely. I plan to make other visits with her in the future and recommend the same to both foreigners, who want to discover Cape Verde, and the natives who would like to know a little more and better our beautiful and wonderful archipelago.   The boat trip to the see the beautiful cave of aguas belas was an amazing adventure to start the new years, Susana the tour guide was warm and inviting and went out her way to make the experience enjoyable while sharing some incites of the history of the islands and its diverse culture.
