安平ツリーハウスと旧台東商館を見学安平港開港後に設置された台東事務所台南基地。当時、この港にアクセスできる外国企業は5社しかなかったため、同社の主な事業は砂糖、樟脳、茶の輸出であり、アヘンの輸入も行っていた。港に隣接しており、非常に繁栄した時代には重要な交易拠点であった。

We toured this with Richard, who was knowledgeable about the sites. The tour showed us bldgs from different eras, once reclaimed by banyan trees, and the other an old fort. Lunch was VERY local street food.

Tainan was established by the Dutch East India Company, making it the first city on the island. Fort Zeelandia remains to bear witness to Tainan's years as the Dutch capital. Ming Dynasty loyalist Koxinga expelled the Dutch in 1662, making it his capital. For many years, Tainan was the island's leading city. Many relics, such as the Confucian Temple, remain. Wushantou Reservoir is some 25 kms (15 miles) north of Tainan. It is also known as Coral Lake. It is a pleasant attraction that is very popular with the residents of south Taiwan. It is dotted with dozens of small islands. Coral Lake is larger, and perhaps more interesting, than Sun Moon Lake.
