  We thoroughly enjoyed our tours with Medellin Day Trips. Our first trip was with Erika and she showed us the city in such a personal way we really felt like we could connect with the city. Her stories of how Medellin has changed from its narcoterrorism history brought everything to life for us. Also riding a cable car for great views, visiting a famous restaurant with dancing, walking the streets of Medellin and learning about the XXX sculptures were highlights. Then we went to a local neighborhood for our food tour. All wonderful! Erika knew everyone and had us taste the authentic local foods and drinks. It was a lovely town with a great vibe and excellent experience. On our second day we were with Sara. First we did a fruit tasting at a local market which was wonderful. Sara shared all the local fruits with us – delicious – and then we walked around the market to take in local foods and spices. Then we toured Comuna 13 and Comuna 3 with Sara. Such interesting experiences to see both places. The transformation of Comuna 13 from a place full of kidnapping, drugs and killing to high energy community filled with art, music, coffee, food and viewpoints is incredible. Then we had the special experience of having lunch in Comuna 3 and touring the neighborhood with a local resident. Comuna 3 is a very authentic place where the pride of the local people really shows. Sara did a wonderful job explaining how the Comuna system works and sharing history of Medellin with us. In short our two days of tours were excellent and I would highly recommend both Erika and Sara.

  We requested Erika to arrange our 3 days in Medellín, and meeting her for the first time was a wonderful experience. She was extremely friendly and welcoming and gave us excellent advice throughout our trip. She managed our tours very cost-effectively. We are a family of four (two adults and two children), and everything was perfectly planned for us. She arranged a city tour and then recommended Comuna 13 and Comuna 3, which turned out to be absolutely amazing. One of the highlights for our kids was when Erika brought spray paint so they could try graffiti painting themselves. They loved it, and it made the experience even more special and memorable for our whole family. We enjoyed every moment of the trip and will definitely visit Medellín again. When we do, we will surely contact Erika. We highly recommend her—she is professional, trustworthy, and truly passionate about what she does.

  We enjoyed seeing both Comunas and the differences between them. Eating lunch in Comuna 3 was a special experience. It was an incredible day. The time flew by so quickly. Alejandro was an incredible guide who added personal perspective on the city. The communication from the tour company and the guide was great. Everything was so amazing that we booked another experience with them for the next day.

  This tour was incredible. Laura was fantastic- so knowledgeable and had a great flow to the tour. We learned so much about the magnificent history and got to see such beautiful, powerful, and touching art. Highly recommend!! Also- be prepared for rain with shoes that have grip!

  We had an incredible experience with our tour guide, Erika! She was funny, sweet, and so informative throughout the entire tour. Erika made everyone feel comfortable and kept the energy up with her great sense of humor and engaging personality.   After an unforgettable experience at a Coffee Farm with Laura, we decided to book another tour with her to explore Comuna 13 and Constelaciones — and it did not disappoint! As expected, this was another incredible experience. We arrived at Comuna 13 early to avoid the crowds, giving us the chance to fully immerse ourselves in the community's rich history and vibrant street art. Laura provided thoughtful insights into the meaning behind each mural, helping us appreciate the deep cultural and historical significance of the area. While we initially considered visiting Comuna 13 on our own, I can confidently say we would not have come close to understanding its powerful story without Laura’s guidance. Afterward, we headed to Constelaciones, home to the world’s largest mural by artist Fredy Alzate. Walking through the community, we saw stunning street art that symbolizes the strength, resilience, and spirit of the local people. Laura arranged a lunch at a local spot, and to my surprise, she even brought out a cake and candle to celebrate my birthday! Both tours gave us a much deeper understanding of Medellín’s culture and history. I cannot praise Laura enough. She is an outstanding tour guide, and I highly recommend her as a guide.

  THE TOUR I have written this review twice already. Each time it got lost. I’m glad because my attempts are a reminder of just how Important to the world, are some of these communities. Also this third attempt had minimal spoilers whilst the other two were filled to the brim with spoilers. Which means don’t miss this extraordinary experience. The tour took us to Comuna 13 and Comuna 3. Both are incredible in their own right and not to be missed. My review focuses primarily on Comuna 3 because I consider it active history that can, if you allow, benefit you and your tribe in some way. Here goes. These days when community spirit and working together is at least sometimes for sound bites and financial gain, the people of Comuna 3 shows us what true commitment to each other looks like. I know that sounds like a cliche but it really is true. Year after year they work together to better their community from its infrastructure to its soul. Though the history, past and living , is a great deal deeper, I am reminded of the poem The Bridge Builder, which describes, albeit inadequately, the resiliency and drive of the community. The Bridge Builder BY WILL ALLEN DROMGOOLE An old man going a lone highway, Came, at the evening cold and gray, To a chasm vast and deep and wide. Through which was flowing a sullen tide The old man crossed in the twilight dim, The sullen stream had no fear for him; But he turned when safe on the other side And built a bridge to span the tide. “Old man,” said a fellow pilgrim near, “You are wasting your strength with building here; Your journey will end with the ending day, You never again will pass this way; You’ve crossed the chasm, deep and wide, Why build this bridge at evening tide?” The builder lifted his old gray head; “Good friend, in the path I have come,” he said, “There followed after me to-day A youth whose feet must pass this way. This chasm that has been as naught to me To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be; He, too, must cross in the twilight dim; Good friend, I am building this bridge for him!” END Within the first few steps and minutes of visiting Comuna 3, one could and likely will easily say ‘ oh it’s so pretty, so beautiful.’ But when you begin to feast on the tales and digest the art depicting those tales you too may never again look at graffiti the same way. And, you may be pressed to echo the words of Rupi who said: “…When your spirit has crushed mountains from now on I will say things like you are resilient or you are extraordinary Not because I don’t think your pretty But because you are so much more than that.” - Rupi Kaur The saying ‘it’s hard to describe’ truly fits the mold here. Colombia is a wonderful place to visit. Medellin is a university in and of itself. Comuna 3 is an impetus for change. It offers up critical life lessons that we should all take back and implement/incorporate in our own communities and personal lives to the extent needed. I believe that the more you travel, the more you understand. The more you understand, the more tolerance you gain. The more tolerance you gain, the less war you’ll make. This one, if you let it, encourages change at the cellular level. This one is not to be missed! OUR GUIDES Our tour company was Medellin Day Tours. We give them a rating of 10 out of 5. I know I know! But they are just so amazingly good! Our tour guides were Erika and Laura and we give them a rating of 100 out of 5! I know! But they were SPECTACULAR!! The scale of one to five cannot is just not enough to describe our experience. We visited with our elderly mother. These ladies assisted her throughout even bringing a chair for her to rest on the way. The took us to a pharmacy when my Mom needed medicine! Above and beyond! As her needs changed during the day, they adjusted the tour and schedule to fit without any of us losing out on the experience. This we greatly appreciated. Their knowledge and spirits are boundless. The deep love for what they do is completely evident. What’s more Laura is a resident of Comuna 3! Talk about getting the info from those who know. Everyone was extraordinarily accommodating, knowledgeable, and upbeat. These are the best tour guides I’ve ever had and I’m talking across many travels. Lastly, I found articles on tours suitable for the elderly! Well Medellin Day Trips fits the mold for the young and the old! Thank you Erika, Laura, Sarah and Andres!

  This is a great tour! I went with my grandpa, and the guides were super accommodating to his needs. I'd definitely recommend this tour for someone looking to explore a less-touristy part of Medellín.

  This is a fantastic experience. Very educational. Impressive artwork and talent on display throughout the day. Laura, our main guide, is fantastic and made the whole experience fun and laid back.
