The following year, the railway services company for which I was carrying out the ITC project, surprisingly sent me on a mission to the American subsidiary, for the “ritual” validations of the proposed solutions. Destination Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, up north, on the Great Lakes border. The crossing was divided into two sections, the first Malpensa-Atlanta , the capital of Georgia and then to the PIT in Pittsburg, where after many dangerous skids the plane finally managed to stop , despite the freezing cold: - 25 degrees Farenheit, not Celsius, but it is many the same!. Pittsburgh is a beautiful 17th-century city located at the confluence - "The point" - of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers, which form Ohio here, entirely navigable to the confluence with the Mississippi. The view from the top of the Mount Washington funicular overlooking the city allows you to admire the varied winding streets of the “Down-Town” all around the centuries-old bridges and courtly high-rise offices. Further away, the green hills frame bright residences with a park and swimming pool, with a characteristic “stars and stripes” style. That time I even managed to make a stop at Monroe Village, Fort Pitt and Duquesne, sites overflowing with the exploits of American colonists in the wars of liberation, first with the French and then against the British Crown. The mission then continued to Batesburg, the city near the Confederate capital Lexington, and Charlotte, South Carolina. Particular is the coat of arms of this state: “the palmetto under the moon”, which flutters everywhere on public buildings along with the historic flag of the Southern States, much to Abraham Lincoln’s liking. Here, the weather was markedly springy, with temperatures markedly milder than in Pittsburgh.

Doug was a great guide. He was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. We learned a lot. My only complaint was the meet up location was inaccurate. The address was for the convention center but the actual meeting place was down the street in a bike shop. Other than that, everything was great. If you're into history and architecture, this is the tour for you!

Enjoyed the tour with Todd. Lots of history from beginning to end, tied it all nicely with the walk. Went by quick. Friendly and professional.
