• I love Yasushi and Yoko

  These two are the best! literally I could have hung around with these two my entire time I was in Tokyo. Whenever you go to a city you want to see it for what it is, you want to get a feel for the place and go off the beaten track, well thats what we did. I was loved the water shrine and how to cleanse yourself, the Kiyosumi gardens were great, the Sky Tower was scary high and when they asked what we should get for lunch, being introduced to Okonomiyaki blew my mind. it was LUSH! oh and we met a sumo wrestler. Then afterwards they just stayed behind and just chilled with me for a drink. Would like to think I made some friends in Japan :)

  

• Review of a Fabulous Day on Bike in Tokyo

  One might not think of exploring a major city like Tokyo on bike as a practical idea, however, I highly recommend this exceptional opportunity to spend a day with Yoko and Yasushi. info@cyclingtourstokyo.com. They made sure that we were comfortable and safe and provided a fascinating tour that provided a rich understanding of Japanese culture. Yoko would show us pictures in her book to illustrate all the facts… One such was a picture of okonomi-yaki, (a special pancake that translates to “what you like cooked” in it) as we walked through the neighborhood where this is made and sold. Yoko’s vibrant personality and excellent command of English provided us insights about Japanese life and history— and food! For example, we visited a neighborhood candy shop where Yoko introduced us to the various treats school children might choose. One was “whistle candy” — life-saver shape, that when resting like an “O” on pursed lips and you blow through, make a shrill whistle. * Of course, we had a delicious lunch as well and the treats continued later in the afternoon, tasting mochi . We visited Azumaya. and admired the work in a specialty leather shop. We learned about the famous 18th c.mapmaker Ino Tadataka and his famous maps used up until 1924 ; learned how to properly offer prayers at Shinto Shrines, and had the opportunity to attend the Goma Rite at Fukagawa Fudo-do ceremony. Yoko encouraged us to participate without either a sense of obligation or feeling like awkward strangers. It made both Shinto and Buddhist rituals very real and meaningful. We enjoyed strolling through the famous Kiyosumi Gardens, acquired by Yataro Iwasaki and finding out the history of this park, filled with special treasures, rare rocks and Basho’s famous haiku about the frog making a sound as it jumps into the pond.It is a place of scenic beauty and donated to the City of Tokyo. We were introduced to Sumo students and learned more about this fascinating art. Our bikes made navigating through old neighborhoods pleasant, allowing us to see so many different aspects of Japanese life. Yoko and Yasushi are top-notch guides and left us with a sense of the cultural richness of Japan. Yoko translated one of the "Ema “ (prayer plaques). “May the world be a happy place for everyone”— indeed, this tour made it feel that such a prayer and wish is possible.

  Cycling in a big city can be a challenge. Our guide, Yoko, took us through areas and districts that we would never have chosen ourselves. We had a fantastic day with a knowledgeable guide who learned much more about Japan’s customs and culture, but also a historical update of what has happened in the area. Riding small but practical bikes was easy. The route was well thought out and without any problems. Taking a bike ride with Yoko is really something we would recommend. We missed the cherry blossom which normally should be the first week in April.

  I would definitively recommended this tour for anyone visiting Tokyo! Our guides were informative and showed us a lot of interesting things we otherwise would have missed. I especially loved the japanese traditional garden.

  I did Tokyo Skytree cycling tour with Yoko and I had wonderful time. Definitely recommend it to everyone, especially if you want something off the beaten touristy track. It was my first time in Tokyo and I must say my knowledge of local ways and culture doubled that day. 6-hours bike ride was not difficult at all because we did frequent stops to see interesting local places (so don't think of it as a prep for Iron Man :)) and cycling was safe because we mainly used quiet small streets and parks. Yoko is a great guide, very knowledgable and friendly and her English is excellent. I had a great active day, learned a lot and have lots of photos from Yoko to remember the day. Will book a tour with Y&Y again when I am next in Tokyo.

  Yoko and Yasushi are the nicest people and had a lot of great knowledge about the area. This tour allowed us to see parts of Tokyo we otherwise wouldn't have seen, definitely recommend!

  Yasushi & Yoko were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They were easy to find and meet up with. I liked the mix of history and culture information as well as appreciating the everyday life of the Japanese. They did a great job, I would do another tour with them.

  The bike trip was well organized and a fun day of seeing a different Tokyo at a different pace. Our guides were really helpful,and really showed that they cared about the riders having a good time and staying hydrated in the hot weather. It was a way to see more charming offbeat sites of the city and I was surprised at how easy it was to bicycle through a busy city like Tokyo. Thank you to Yoko and her husband for a great day.

  Really enjoyed this day this was our fourth day in Tokyo and the first three had been very hectic, navigating the subway and shopping etc, so this day was great for just relaxing. It sounds like it could be hard work, cycling in July heat and humidity, but it was surprisingly easy. We all enjoyed lunch, even my husband found a curry he liked and he can be reluctant to try new foods. My son still wanted to go shopping once the tour had ended, but for the six hours we were on this tour it was great to slow things down for a while and see something different, which we wouldn't have seen otherwise. We did the Mt Fuji tour the following day, which constantly felt like we were being hurried back onto the coach, so this cycling tour was my favourite out of the two.

  Yasushi is nice. The tour did not provide much information about japanese culture or history. The schedule is too slow/loose. In other words, we needs to be more activities in the schedule. Besides the cost, I feel I lost the precious time in Tokyo that I could have used to do something else
