• Tour of a lifetime

  My review is rather long, but that is because the visit was so successful after many years of waiting and hoping. My visit to Tibet had so many wonderful moments and unique experiences that I cannot list them all. First, your agency suggestions on how to arrange the itinerary were excellent. Seeing Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple at the start and on return at the end of the tour was a wonderful way to "book-end" the tour. The opportunity to see these two very important places twice while on a tour of Tibet really helps to solidify the experience for a first-time visitor. Also, the contrast between our first visit to Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple during the crowded Autumn Holiday and the second visit during the calm post-holiday time was remarkable. It was also extremely helpful to have two days in Beijing before the tour and one day in Beijing after the tour. Second, the guide and driver really worked well as a team. Having a university-trained, English-speaking Tibetan guide like Lobsang was so cool! He was always congenial, truthful, flexible, eager to teach, and was expert in the details of each place we visited. Even when we encountered unexpected situations, he helped to make the best of it. He always tried to allow me to do as much as possible, even pushing the limits to see more on some days. He was flexible and understanding when I took longer than expected on some things (for example, our morning time at Rombuk; the times when I walked the high and low Kora routes at Ganden, the Kora at Tashilhunpo Monastery, and the Kora at Potala Palace; and the afternoon debate session with the monks at Sera Monastery). Our driver, Tanzen, was always on time and extraordinarily skillful. He knew exactly how to move us to each place. Having the same great guide and driver for the whole tour made the visit even more special. Next, the accommodations were in great locations for sightseeing. The food and service were consistently good. The value for the money spent was very good. The documents were available on time and in perfect order. Airport security officials were very courteous and respectful. Air travel and train travel were all on time. There was adequate free time and flexibility in the itinerary. I realize that being a solo visitor is not the same as being in a group. But, Lobsang allowed time for us at a music store in Shigatze. I enjoyed listening to him sing and play a Tibetan guitar. I even played some songs. As a musician, this was absolutely fantastic time! People I encountered were neutral or friendly. I always felt safe while exploring. All of the security officials were very courteous and respectful. Because our visit time at each place was brief, we were lucky to experience good weather. I think Lobsang and Tanzen enjoyed that. I will always remember Lobsang's joy at the fair weather for our visit to Rombuk and Qomolangma. Seeing his joy made me feel so happy! I hope I will always remember the phrases of Tibetan that he taught me. I also hope that Lobsang will be granted a passport permit to visit some of the places that he wishes to see. If I were going to visit again, I would take your advice and avoid the Autumn Holiday time. It was extremely crowded in Beijing and very crowded in Lhasa during that time. (In Beijing, I enjoyed entering tourist sites for free as a senior.) I would also ride the Qinghai Railway train from Xining to Lhasa to see the scenery from Xining to Golmud during the daytime, then return by train from Lhasa to Xining to see the scenery from Lhasa to Golmud during the daytime. I would definitely stay again at Lhatse on the night before going to Rombuk.   The tour, was great! Amazing and beautiful country, culture and people. Tibet, was a dream that came true for me. The tour was perfect and our local guide full of experience and knowledge. The driver reliable with safe drive. I absolutely recommend everyone windhorsw tour!
