Don*t pay in advance!! - ! - I booked and payed a trip with them this January, which was cancelled due to bad weather conditions (not their fault - and happened with 2 other divecompanies in the same week on other spots - as they all had the same windy weather the whole week). Unfortuantely I could not swap to another timeslot as I left the country 1 week later. So far they have refused to refund my money (the other 2 dive shops did it instantly) or even answer to my emails about it for 5 months. So I strongly advice not to use them and have to take legal actions now. After I had posted this experience on Google the owner contacted me explaing he does not need to refund me, as his T&C say so. (Explaining to me about his hilariously customer unfriendly T&C that you can find very well hidden on his website (who would agree that they would not get a refund for a cancelled trip due to weather - but that you then have to buy stuff in Neils shop instead?). He demanded that I take down my posting - and only than he would consider a refund but will have to charge me 152 dollars admin fees to do that - and that I should just buy someting in his shop instead.

Wish I read the Google reviews first. The boat is terrible and uncomfortable, the instructors don’t seem to know what they’re doing, Neil is not a nice person and makes the whole experience worse.

Never had such a bad experience. We paid 600 NZD and got nothing in return. First it was always postponed until my father went back to Germany plus the day before the second postponed dive they stated that we can’t dive with them as we are not certified (which I clearly stated at the booking, which was happily accepted attached with the invoice to sent them 600 NZD). Now they won’t sent me my money back and we have to go to the small claims court. Just intended to have a memorable experience which turned into a nightmare…

Do not use this company. Once you give them your money you wont get it back - regardless of wether you get to dive or not. Very immoral practices. Read all reviews before you book with them please. Booked a trip with friends - got cancelled due to Auckland's crazy weather (fair enough), but then they refused to refund the dive money? Cancellation was sent out a week prior to the dive - so lots of time. They even went so far as to send us a reminder to pay since 'the dive was selling out fast' two weeks beforehand, when in the cancellation email they stated that they had been going to the dive location for weeks without any sightings of the sharks. There is no reason a dive centre should be refusing refunds for dives that werent completed. Ive been diving for 10 years - first time I've ever come across this level of money grabbing.

Without a doubt one of the easiest, friendliest and most adventurous experiences of my diving life. Jacqui - thank you for being so helpful and accommodating and flexible when bad weather meant days had to be shifted about. Neil - thanks for being such a knowledgeable and good guide and for all the fascinating stories. I also really respect the philosophy and sustainable approach NZ Diving has. Very highly recommended.

Good dive tour of Little Barrier Island. Saw some juvenile hammerhead sharks while in the boat but as soon as we got in the water they swam away. Animal, plant life as well as the topography was amazing. Wonderful conversation about sharks and conservation efforts from the skipper (Niel). He was very knowledgeable and was very familiar with the area. Very professional. I would definitely use this company again for another dive!

Such an amazing day out! It was absolutely beautiful and we were extremely lucky to see common dolphins, pilot whales, Bryde's whales and even penguins on the surface during our experience!! Although we didn't see any hammerheads while scuba diving we saw loads from the surface and could not recommend this tour more!! Such an amazing day out 10/10.

We booked solely for the hammerhead shark experience, however both being experienced divers understood there is no guarantee catching a glimpse of the elusive creatures. Great weather conditions and maybe a tad of luck allowed us to see various marine mammals (common dolphins, pilot whales, Bryde's whales), and avian species (shearwaters, gannets) on our trips to and from the dive sites, and the knowledgeable staff informed us of lifecycles, feeding and migratory patterns of these animals - when asked. We also saw a hammerhead, underwater! There were many soaking-up the sun on the surface and we were given the opportunity to snorkel with them, however they kept their distance.. There were many recreational fishers near one of the dive sites, apparently this is unusual, but given the recent lockdown and great weather it wasn't surprising. Neil and Jacqui were exceptionally helpful, friendly and kind. 5/5, highly recommend.

We chartered a boat through NZ Diving a couple of weeks back. Initially we were heading to Great Barrier island, but re-routed to Hammerhead bay , Little Barrier island due to weather. Our skipper and dive guide was amazing. He shared information about the geography and maritime life around the area. The boat ride out of sandspit was not rushed, we took our time exploring and enjoyed seeing quite a few common dolphins and bottlenose dolphins. At the bay, there were hammerhead sharks, they were human-shy and swam away when we entered the water, but kept coming back to enjoy the warm weather. Our dive was relaxed, we saw sting rays, puffer fish and various other species. Would go back again, and highly recommend.

Terrible experience. Do not book with them, instead take your custom to Dive! Tutukaka I booked for the hammerhead shark dive. It got cancelled due to bad weather. Fair enough. Rearranged trip the next month also got cancelled due to bad weather. Fair enough. There was 1 date left in the year and I wasn’t able to make it (I live here and it was actually commutable to try another time, unlike a lot of tourists). So I couldn’t make the 3rd rearranged trip, so I asked for my money back. They said no, they’re keeping it. Even though the next trip wasn’t for another year. I have dived all over the world, and NEVER has anyone else taken my money, and not given me a dive. That doesn’t happen! If it doesn’t run, you don’t pay - that’s the norm, but this company was more than happy to take your money anyway. My friend was able to come another time (not written her own review). She has done over 100 dives and done her dive rescue course, and said it is the worst dive she has ever done. She said she felt completely unsafe, old gear, team didn’t look after her and felt if she wasn’t experienced it could have gone very badly. She also didn’t see any hammerheads (not their fault) but said it was a very boring dive without seeing them. If you aren’t convinced - just look at the 5 star PADI rating given to the other company in Tutukaka, not this one. The sites are the same.
