• Perfect cruise tour

  This was a small group tour so it was perfect. The driver was great and explained a lot about the area. The fortress was amazing and you can easily spend an entire day there. The tour guide did tell us about highlights to see in the fortress which helped because I would have missed some of the interesting things like musket shooting. Loved that we had time to spend on various stops and could kinds take more or less depending on the needs of the group. Since we were all on the same ship it worked out well. Definitely recommend when in Sydney.

  I was excited to take an excursion that visited both the lighthouse and the old fort. There was a little mixed messaging regarding the exact time to meet upon disembarking our cruise ship but the operator guaranteed he will be waiting for us, and he was there, as promised, and was easy to find. I knocked the rating down because he arranged for six adults to be stuffed into a Dodge Durango SUV where two people had to climb into the third row, and three people squished into the middle seat (and one up front). Our group agreed to rotate seats, but a lot of people, especially strangers, aren’t always that cool. Our driver and guide was professional, gave a lot of historical narrative about the area, and was very we versed in local information. He recommended a great lunch spot for after our tour and even dropped us off there as we returned to the port. I would use this company again if we had a more spacious vehicle, so if you’re concerned about comfort for the price you’re paying, please ask questions before you reserve your seats.

• Disappointing experience

  This was the most disappointing Viator tour we’ve ever had. There were 3 couples on the tour. The tour we booked was different from the other 2 couples. Our tour was advertised as having a guided tour at Louisbourg Fortress. We were just dropped off to self explore. When I asked the driver about it, he asked a colleague who told him they changed the description of the itinerary a couple weeks earlier. We should have been notified of the change. The other couples had a stop at a railway museum on their itinerary. We stopped but it was closed. The vehicle was a standard minivan so 3 adults had to sit on the back bench. The only reason I gave 2 stars was because our driver tried very hard to make the tour as pleasant as he could.

  Had an amazing time! Easy to locate van and meet the guide. Enjoyed seeing the city on the way to the fortress. Enjoyed the stop at the lighthouse beforehand. Had the option of guided tour or not at the Fortress. Timing was perfect. I recommend as it was definitely cheaper than doing the cruise excursion and nice having a small group.

  What an interesting place to visit, and so well done. We paid for a short introductory tour which was helpful later as we toured the fortress. The in-character narrators we met along the way were excellent, full of interesting information about the people who once lived there. We spent three hours here and were never bored.

  We had the most amazing day! Our guide (I am sorry I don’t have his name) was very informative and very friendly. The lighthouse stop was fantastic and the fort was a must see! My only complaint was that it was never made very clear what time to meet and because of that we held up the tour a few minutes which we felt bad about.

  Loved seeing the lighthouse and fortress. Much cheaper than the cruise line and a better, smaller-group experience. Learned a lot as we toured the city beforehand and as we traveled to Louisbourg. Car was comfortable. We had enough time at each spot. (only thing I would recommend is a bit more communication ahead of time about start time.)

  Absolutely fantastic small group tour you could ask for. Jessie was waiting for us at the pier. Total of 6 of us in a van plus him. He took us to the lighthouse and then to the fortress. He stayed with us the entire day. He was very knowledgeable and a very kind gentleman. The fortress experience exceeded our expectations.   Beautiful scenery with fall colors. The Fortress was quite interesting, well restored and the staff was informative.
