Torre de Belem
ベレンの塔 (以前はサン ビセンテの塔) は、テージョ川右岸のベレンにある要塞です。ここにはかつてベレン ビーチが存在していました。元々は周囲全体が水に囲まれていました。何世紀にもわたってビーチに囲まれていましたが、今日では陸地の一部になりました。市の蔵書の 1 つであるこの記念碑は、マヌエル 1 世治世の建築上の象徴です。 時間が経つにつれて、塔はテージョ川を守る機能を失い、フィリピンの占領後、古い倉庫は地下牢に取って代わられました。塔の 4 つのフロアには、総督の間、国王の間、謁見の間、そして最後に特徴的な 16 世紀の丸天井を持つ礼拝堂が残っています。サン ビセンテの塔 (1514 年) は、ポルトガルのジョアン 2 世によって建設を命じられたテージョ川流域を守る陣形に属し、南にはサン セバスティアン ダ カパリカの塔 (1481 年)、西にはサントの塔が配置されています。アントニオ・デ・カスカイス（1488年）。

5.00Arriving at our meeting point we noted two gentlemen in dapper dark grey suits in a shiny BMW; little did we realise that they were there to take us on our day tour of their city! Quietly chauffeured from point to point through the busy hustle of Lisbon’s traffic and the noisy throng of tourists and crowded vantage points, we listened intently to a dialogue which neatly weaved the history of Lisbon into a chronological sequence of the significant events over more than 3000 years, which slowly shaped how each district was established, as the waves of different cultures invaded, settled and eventually coalesced into the Lisbon of today. And after walking around each vantage point, or took a short stroll along significant sectors of the city, we found our BMW waiting for us each time, ready to drive us on to the next stop. Jose even pointed out some of the pickpockets ‘mingling with intent’ amongst the throng of tourists! A highlight was the visit to Belem and the ‘Pasteis de Belem’ café for lunch and to see how the Pastel de Nata is made, and then being given a box of six! Being the second-oldest city in Europe, we plan to come again to hear their next chapter! These ‘Two Jose’s” are a great team! What a great day!
