Overall it was as much as I wanted to see and do for this kind of tour. We did the "hard" hike, and let me tell you--don't take that description lightly. If you don't regularly go hiking, you will find it challenging. But the views were more than worth it. Our guide, Ae, was a character and really made the trip special, adding his flare of personality and humor to the experience. We saw monkeys in the early morning, and he had the right amount of energy to keep me half awake after a rough night's sleep (see below). The food was a bit bland for my tastes, but that's because I've lived in Thailand for 5 years, so I've had really quality food. It seemed they were cooking to accommodate groups of Western tongues, which tend to be shy on the spicy food, so I get why the food was a bit bland. It was still good for what it was, though, and after a day hiking in the heat and a morning squinting to find monkeys in the trees, it hits the spot anyway. So here's a warning. The floating bungalows are bare bones. Not only will you be roughing it in a bamboo and grass structure with only a window for ventilation in the heat (luckily it cools off quite a bit at night), but all the bungalows are fixed to the plank-dock walkways. That means that every time anyone walks down these pathways, you will feel it. And since the toilet is a separate community-shared structure centrally located in the facility, every guest's visit to the toilet is felt and heard by all. Between the drunk idiots chortling and shouting until midnight, the late-night toilet excursions, and the bullfrogs croaking into the night, don't expect to get much sleep. Just remember: it's just one night! Overall, my father, wife and I were pleased with the experience and would all recommend it. You'll never see scenery like that which surrounds Ratchaprapha Lake, so nature is really the draw here.

Nothing but high praise for Austin and the staff of Khao Sok Lake Tours. I was traveling solo and had the most fantastic experience staying in the floating bungalows on Cheow Lan Lake. The tour was a bit overbooked, so I ended up sharing a bungalow with three others in a four-person bungalow, as opposed to having my own, but I ended up making some great friends and gaining some travel advice. Waking up on the water was so peaceful and the food served was just delicious. I recommend taking the trek to Nam Ta Lu Cave. Prepare to see spiders the size of your hand, swim neck-deep in water surrounded by a plethora of bats and stunning stalactites overhead. At night, the jungle is alive with sounds, and the sky an explosion of stars. Post-tour, Austin and the office team even assisted me in getting transport to my hostel. Thanks to all for a grand adventure!

Summary: the 2 days on the lake are actually app. 25 hours on the lake with rather set agenda where you will most likely see more people than animals. Despite the beautiful views and nice nature, I would not say that it was worth the app. THB 20,000 all-in cost for our family (excluding getting there and back). More detail: We experienced the 2D/1N Bamboo Bliss Tour with private boat & guide for 2 adults and three children (ages 8, 6, 4). Despite having own guide & boat, do not expect to have much to say to the program as it seems to be rather set (i.e. nobody asks you what you actually want to see and do). After a short pickup ride from the office, you will arrive to the pier where you pay the national park entry fee & additional minor "pier" fee. There were many people (would estimate 200-300) around the pier, mostly westerners. A string of boats starts between 10:30 and 11:00 all following the same route, making a queue at the Guilin scenic point. A short stop for a picture and you are off to the accommodation. We were appointed to stay in Kroi Son, perhaps the most remote of the lodging options, which is far from the spectacular cliffs but best spot for wildlife watching. Krai Son boasts approximately 50 simple bamboo huts with only one (well-maintained) toilet/shower area which means that you will most likely walk a lot on the rocking pontons unless you will use the lake as the toilet. In late December, all huts seemed to be occupied and with all people having meals more or less at the same time, do not expect much tranquility. The lunch + dinner was good (fish, curry, sweet & sour chicken, omelet, rice, fruit). For drinks water/tea/instant coffee were included (chance to buy some soft drinks and beer). The afternoon waterfall hike was nice, walking up the stream through the water and seeing some impressive ficus trees. The waterfall itself is in late December just a trickle and do note expect much. When we asked about a possibility to visit a cave in the morning next day, this surprised our guide who had to call the office. It would cost additional THB 800 for Diamond cave and THB 2,000 for Coral cave and you are restricted to own headlamps (the guide carried no light with him either). We did not go in the end and stuck to the "official" program. We have unfortunately seen more people than animals during the afternoon boat safari and morning mist safari (starting at 7:00). We actually saw 3 buffalos, few monkeys, ospreys and other birds but cannot blame our guide for not trying to spot more. If I was an animal, I would also avoid the safari "rush hours". After breakfast you have free time. There could have been more kayaks and unbroken paddles as in this part of the day all kayaks were out on the lake and we had to wait for other people to get back. Despite our preference to stay as long in the area as possible, around 11:00 we were already on the boat on our way back, zipping through the picturesque cliff area. The journey takes app. 30 minutes of fast and bumpy ride (the day was windy). We then had a nice lunch back on the mainland where we parted with our guide. Our guide & boatmaster Sunit, nicknamed "Nit" with reasonable command of English was very friendly and during the hike was very attentive to our kids which we appreciated :-)

We did the overnight trip to the lake, getting picked up from Our Jungle House. This really was one of the highlights of our holiday. The lake is so stunningly beautiful and peaceful, it really is like nowhere else I've been. We were taken from the pier to our accommodation via longtail boat. The accommodation is extremely basic - literally just a mattress on the floor - but the views from your front door make it all worthwhile and the toilets/showers are extremely clean. We then went for a hike which was the only slight downside. While the view from the viewpoint was amazing, the hike turned into a full on vertical rock climb for the last 150m which was a little more strenuous than I was expecting. The following day we visited a cave and spent more time on the lake - swimming and canoeing. It's definitely wroth the visit - I can highly recommend.

My wife and I booked the 2 day 1 night Lake Tour. Upon arriving at the Khao Sok Lake office, we immediately knew that this was going to be a fun tour. All the staff was really nice and took good care of us. Our guide Em was a great guy and very knowledgable about the area. We were in good hands with him. The program was really nice but also laid back, with plenty of free time to enjoy the lake activities. Our accomodation was nice and the food was good as well. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Although it was poring rain most of the time there was nothing stopping me to fall in love with this place. Khao Sok National Park is one of the most beautiful places I‘ve been to. Besides the incredible nature also the „raft“ was quite cool. The food was good too. There where however many frogs, lizards and ants on the raft. For some reason the mosquitoes don‘t come in to the bungalows which is really nice. We had some trouble falling a sleep after spotting the tail of a rather large lizard behind the mattress just before going to sleep.

The lake is a beautiful cristal blue water all over, the boat drive is a pleasure and you can make 16 stops on the lake. It is mainly resorts to stay but also some activities like kayak, enjoy the freedom and peace of the place to do it (100 bahts for 1 hour). BAd point is there is only one pier and prices are not fair for tourists. Prefer to book with a tour guide if you are a group under 3 persons, over 3 persons it is worth it to take your own boat.
