Set sail from Port Douglas for a day of snorkeling and adventure on the Outer Barrier Reef. Immersed in the northern frontier of Great Barrier Reef, this is the perfect sailing and snorkeling adventure for a conservation minded visitor. Ideally suited to those who can swim and have a spirit of fun and adventure. The white sands of the coral cay are surrounded by tropical waters filled with fish, turtles and coral. This cruise is on a 82ft custom built catamaran, with good company and helpful assistance from the crew. A buffet lunch is included, along with morning & afternoon tea, a reef interpretation talk, a guided snorkel tour and an interpretive glass-bottom boat. Discerning guests can fully enjoy an inspiring full day of adventure using wind power to the absolutely stunning cay on the Great Barrier Reef in the most environmentally way!

Please bring towel, swimsuit, sunscreen, sunglasses and hat. We also recommend a jumper in the cooler months.
To participate in the activity of snorkelling, you must be confident in the water with the capacity to swim unassisted. If you are a poor swimmer, you may not be suitable to snorkel in the open water. Not all passengers will be suitable to snorkel, and our experienced crew have the discretion to advise against snorkelling if deemed “not suitable for the activity”. This is for the safety of the passenger. Please be advised snorkelling can be a strenuous physical activity, even in calm water and that older people are at an increased risk of death and/or injury due to a higher incidence of medical conditions made worse by physical exertion, such as heart disease and stroke. All passengers intending to snorkel will be asked to complete our Medical Declaration for Snorkelling form. Our experienced crew will discuss any issues relating to medical conditions and swimming ability. Sailaway reserves the right to decline any passenger from participating in snorkelling if we are concerned about your health condition and/or swimming ability. This is for your own safety, please listen to the advice of our experienced snorkel guides to ensure the safety of our guests.
Our Sailaway vessels are luxury sailing catamarans and we offer a pure sailing experience. This means the vessels travel in open seas and will move around whilst under sail. The decks of the vessels are multi levels and can be slippery when wet. Passengers must have good mobility to safely move around the vessels, step onto the glass bottom boats (if applicable) and get in and out of the water via the ladders on the back of the vessels. Unfortunately, we do not offer wheelchair access due to the layout of the decks and saloon areas. Our tours are adventure experiences for active travellers. Please choose your tour carefully to ensure it is suitable for your experience, age and physical health.

The adventure starts with an early departure from the Port Douglas Marina. Sit back and relax as we set sail to the Mackay Cay, out from Cape Tribulation. Enjoy an authentic sailing experience, following the coastline and views of the Daintree mountains. Once at the protected sites at the Coral Cay, nature activities will include snorkelling over the pristine coral reef with a qualified marine biologist offering reef interpretation on a guided snorkel tour. A glass bottom boat coral viewing tour is also on offer. Premium reef sites showcase abundant marine life, including encounters with turtles and an amazing display of giant clam gardens, beautiful corals and a wide variety of fish. 5.00Picked up on time. Well organized. Clean/tidy vessel. Friendly and helpful staff. Appropriately watchful and attentive to the safety and comfort of guests. Plentiful food - not super fancy but tasty and in keeping with the nature of the activity. As for the reef experience: dazzling water, intricate/varied types of coral, vast types/numbers of fish, very appropriate for mid-level snorkelers who are good swimmers and comfortable in the water. There were people who seemed to be more advanced, others who seemed to be more beginner, older folks who didn’t get in the water. Seemed like overall the others were really enjoying themselves too. Wild trip back when some showers moved in late, anyone with motion sickness should be prepared. Luckily we all seemed fine. Thanks, would definitely use this outfit again.

5.00Amazing organization, staff and boat! We started the day being picked up on time at our hotel and dropped at the office. The boarding of the boat was smooth with excellent instructions and a reef overview of marine life as well as the corals we would see. Amazing snorkeling- felt as if you were in an aquarium- tons of fish, starfish, coral at two locations! Courtney, Mick and Dylan as well as the other staff (I cannot remember their names) were all top notch!

Courtney, Mick and the rest of the crew were incredible - it was a beautiful day, the sailing was smooth. the corals and marine life were absolutely incredible. The crew took great care to ensure you have everything you need and the boat is excellent. It was a top notch experience and totally worthwhile.

5.00What a ripper day. Comfort and reef education and morning tea. The snorkeling was amazing - hard to believe the colours in the reef. The tropical fish were abundant. Sea was a bit choppy but nobody can control the weather. Staff are lovely. Absolutely recommend.

5.00The reef trip was very well organised. Crew were friendly and professional. The marine bio talk prior to snorkeling was interesting and informative and really helpful to have heard prior to entering the water and seeing the coral and wildlife. Which were spectacular. Absolute highlight. Journey back was rough. Crew were attentive and were constantly checking in on people and making sure they were as comfortable as they could be. Overall fantastic experience.

5.00We had a fantastic all day trip with the Sailaway crew out to the reef. The vessel was well equipped and the staff knowledgable and extremely attentive to all throughout the day. Both snorkelling activities were brilliant with time to explore the reef, spot many colourful marine life and under the safe watchful eye of the crew - an experience our party of 4 would thoroughly recommend - well done to the Sailaway crew👏👏👏

The coral reef is just a business

1.00Day trip “luxury cruise” to the coral reef with two swimming-snorkeling and lunch for €206. More than two hours of diesel navigation to get to Macay Cay and back. Without atmosphere, it is endless. At least 50 passengers aboard the Sailaway VII. With about 40 swimmers in the water over a width of about ten meters, that’s too much for me. French fries and fins, hard to appreciate corals 🪸 Let’s not talk about fish. You have to swim a little before you can see anything or not much. The second snorkeling trip took place at the same place. The description states “continue to the second reef site”, but also states that the company reserves the right to change its route. It’s well prowled, but not fun and even less enjoy first class service as claimed for a very high price. In order to ensure the self-service of lunch, we are dropped off in groups of 25 on a beautiful island covered with birds and, for lack of prior information (because we are just in an organization logistics), two overexcited children threw themselves on them to make them fly in chaos and before anyone had time to appreciate the magic of the place. Only tea, coffee and still water are included, other drinks are charged. Proper meal and cookies. There were muffins in the morning upon arrival and some crackers with cheese cubes in the afternoon. With water of course. The efficient staff could just as easily accompany 4x4, quads or jet skis. Crew members obviously don’t do this job out of interest to the planet. The coral reef is a business. This company is a good seller. I only put one star because unfortunately I cannot put zero. They can answer me anything they want, I saw what I saw.
