We had a wonderful day with Hisa. She was a fantastic blend of an experienced tour guide, a world traveler, kind, and considerate. Hisa found us at the bus station, took care of securing bus tickets and helped us onto the right bus for Shirakawa-go. She was very thoughtful and considerate of what we would like to see and do, as we had our 9 yr old daughter with us. In fact, by the end of the day, we and our daughter trusted her so much that we left them to rest by themselves while my husband and I checked out one more souvenir shop. Having grown up in Takayama, we could feel how much pride and joy she had in sharing her knowledge of the area. She took us to the authentic sites, often times away from the crowds (which weren't that bad that day). We had a delightful lunch at a local restaurant hidden behind a shop further into the village. It felt really special to hear the kind shop-keeper describe to us how much effort it takes to source the chestnuts for the local special of Tochi Mochi that we were eating. Despite us having a mishap near the end of our tour of Shirakawa-go, where we needed extra time to shop for souvenirs, Hisa was super flexible, gracious and accommodating. Back in Takayama, we got to meet her daughter and husband, both of whom were so kind and welcoming. After our tour, Hisa sent us the photos she had taken of us during the day, and even gave us a personal recommendation for the most historic knife shop in Takayama. In the end, we left feeling that we have true friends in Takayama. We will never forget their kindness and hospitality.
