5.00This wasn’t just ticking off the Big 5 – it was about how you see them. Horseback riding gave me a sense of being part of the landscape rather than just observing it from a vehicle. The horses were calm even when we got close to zebra and giraffe, and the guides were excellent at reading the animals’ behavior. We didn’t see elephant or leopard on horseback, but that’s expected and why the afternoon drive is included. The lodge has a pool and restaurant with views over a waterhole, so there’s downtime between activities. If you’re comfortable around horses, even at a basic level, this is worth doing. It’s one of the most memorable days I had in South Africa.
