Board bus for a 30 minute ride on the Haines Scenic Byway into the heart of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve to the river dock. On your narrated drive you will enjoy stories of the history of the valley.
During your time on the Chilkat River, traverse many different channels and travel 20 miles into the wilderness. You vessel is specially designed to travel on silt-laden rivers which is the only access to a remote roadless portion of the preserve. The preserve has the best moose habitat in the valley, although no guarantees, the chances of spotting moose or bears are very good.
Have your cameras ready in case the wildlife provides a once in a lifetime photo opportunity. After returning to the dock, you'll enjoy a riverside picnic.

4.00The staff was friendly and well prepared. Unfortunately the bus used to transport us to the departure boats broke down in route with us on it. Madi our bus driver handled the situation with a sense of humor. Our trip was rushed to make up the time to pick up the next tour group.

5.00A magnificent back country adventure. Excellent guide service. We explored several different habitats along the river. We saw quite a few bear, including a mother and four cubs. The moose was skittish that morning and it was a bit early in the season for them. Saw a bald eagle too, of course. Cold and wet weather but we were well cared for with the heavy jackets and blankets they provided. The warming tent and light meal provided were a very welcome end to the trip. Highly recommend this tour!
