Landmannalaugar
We'll begin our trek at Landmannalaugar, the starting point of the Laugavegur Trail. First we'll explore Laugahraun lava field and Vonugil canyon, admire the breath-taking and vibrant colours of the rhyolite mountains. We'll see the famous and multicoloured Mt. Brennisteinsalda before wandering back to our camping site, not before enjoying Graenagil and climbing Blahnukur, if time allows. Together we will enjoy a delicious dinner while getting to know your group and enjoying a bathe in the Landmannalaugar hot springs. Driving time: 2-3 hours Distance: 8 km (4.9 mi) Walking time: 4 hrs Ascent: 470 m (1540′)
A vast, rugged lava field formed during an eruption in 1477. Its twisted black formations contrast beautifully with the surrounding colourful mountains, creating one of Landmannalaugar’s most dramatic landscapes.
Often called “the Sulphur Wave,” this multicolored volcano glows with reds, yellows, greens, and blues thanks to geothermal activity and mineral deposits. It’s one of the most photographed peaks on the trail.
Known as the Blue Peak, Bláhnjúkur offers sweeping 360° views over Landmannalaugar’s rhyolite mountains, lava fields, and distant glaciers. Its deep blue‑green slopes come from ancient volcanic ash.
Landmannalaugar
Landmannalaugar Hot Springs - A natural geothermal oasis where warm streams flow through a lava field. It’s the perfect place to unwind after your first day of hiking, surrounded by colorful mountains and steaming vents.

First, we'll pass Stórasúla and Hattafell volcanoes, where we will get great views of Mýrdalsjökull & Eyjafjallajökull. On our way to Botnar, a beautiful green oasis, we will see Markarfljótsgljúfur, a deep gorge plummeting 200m below, created by glacial water. We'll reward our hard work with a tasty dinner, spending time with our new friends and enjoying the beautiful scenery. Distance: 15km (9.5 mi), walking time: 6-7 hrs, descent: 40 m (130 ft).

I wish I could do it again for the first time. Our guide Daniela made everything even better, so much easier, and our group got along so well. What a great experience!

I recently completed the awe inspiring 6 day Laugavegur & Fimmvörðuháls Trek with Artic Adventures. Artic Adventures were so organised and absolutely everything was so well catered for. Great food (nothing dyhydrated), as though you had cooked it yourself ( grilled salmon, roasted lamb, lamb soup, pancakes, snacks galore,...) Dietary requirements were extremely well catered for. Our guide Ioanna, was always so genuinely bubbly, energetic and knowledgable and ensured we always felt safe. It was easy to put our trust in her. Travelling solo was great as I met so many like minded people from all walks of life, many of whom were also travelling solo. I think I was the oldest in the group at 58, but I'm a reasonably fit female and found the hiking manageable. I also hike regularly at home in all weather conditions. Some experience hiking in rain and wind helps a lot. There were 12 in our group which I thought was a good number. I wouldn't have wanted more (although 16 is the maximum.) Artic Adventures also sends out information on what to pack so you are well prepared for your daily hikes in all terrain and all weather scenarios. I highly recommend an Icelandic adventure with Arctic Adventures.

We did the Laugavegur 4 day hike. An amazing experience, fantastic scenery. Arctic adventures organized everything. All we had to do was hike (and a bit of cleaning at the end of the day)! You do need to be comfortable with sharing a room with 16 other people though.

Laugevagur is hard to describe in adjectives - absolutely incredible and core memory trip 😍 Daniela as our guide was fantastic - she was so thoughtful and patient as a leader. She knew how to make us laugh and also gave clear instructions/directions for each day. Her friendliness inspired a collaborative group space where we were all rooting for each other along the way.

The guide was amazing, informative, organized, and passionate. I wish I could give this trek 5 stars just for them. I completed my first hut to hut successfully and I am very grateful for their leadership. The three stars is due to a fellow participant that was very disruptive. This person had a medical issue which led to extreme snoring. My understanding is that they utilized a cpap machine at home. While I firmly believe hiking is for everyone I also strongly believe that the needs of one person cannot put an entire group at higher risk for injury or falls. Everyone was sleep deprived for at least 3 days due to this issue. Headphones with white noise and ear plugs provided little if any relief. I’m not sure what the solution to this issue is, especially in remote areas; however it greatly affected my experience.

Artic Adventures provides 1 guide per group of 16 people when it comes to the Luagavegur Trek. For me, this is a safety flag and something we weren't aware of when we booked. We were a group of 16 participants and we had only 1 guide (who was amazing by the way). However, she had to stay in the lead position and our group encompassed ages 30s to 70s -- so you can well imagine that we spread out as we trekked. People at/near the back pretty much had to look after themselves. This was a huge safety concern and a worry for us as we trekked. We felt we had to push our pace so that we wouldn't fall behind. Our guide did her best, and waited at key points to ensure everyone caught up. However, as an experienced hiker, I would have assumed 2 guides for a group of 16 -- one in the lead and one in the back. Our one guide not only led us but also organized all the cooking and pretty much did most of it although we all chipped in to help prep and do dishes. She was excellent but can only do so much with a group this size. We also had a problem with Artic Adventures over a refund they owed us. Took many emails, phone calls and 2 months before we got a partial refund back.

This was an absolutely fantastic hike with the most stunning scenery and an adventurous trail. Our guide, Daniela, was absolutely fantastic. Always enthusiastic, knowledgeable, friendly and she did an amazing job organising and feeding a group of 15 people. It is a challenging hike and you are at the mercy of Icelandic weather, so pack well!

We had the best time on the Laugavegur Trail! The trail itself is spectacular and cannot be beat. We chose this option even though we are very experienced hikers and could have planned it ourselves, but this made the logistics super easy. Who doesn’t love slackpacking? Having been on some tours in Iceland before, I honestly was worried the most about the guide. On other tours, it was clear that the guide was recycling the same jokes and bored of showing off Iceland. Not our guide Dani! It was very clear she was passionate about sharing this experience with us. Her positivity was endless and I learned a lot about the plants and geology from her along the way. I felt prepared for every day’s challenges and appreciated how she handled the task divvying up at the huts. She took the time to get to know all of us. The whole trek turned out better than expected and it was largely because of her!

What a trip!! 10/10. I went with my friends and Daniella made it the most amazing experience. Her positivity and enthusiasm never wavered over our 4 day trek. She was a ray of sunshine throughout the experience and also exhibited all the technical skills/knowledge to make you feel comfortable. I could not recommended the experience more ❤️
