Next stop is Ooost, the regional center for local products, to tell you about the famous Ganda ham and give you a taste of a delicious local candy that we try to keep hidden from the rest of the world.

This tour was 100% worth it for the price! There were only four people on our tour, which might have been why but the portion of fries was so big we couldn’t finish it! Everything else was as expected, two pieces of chocolate, a candy, a quarter of a waffle, a little stew, a cube of meat with mustard, and a small glass of beer. For the price we paid this tour was definitely worth it! Our guide Hans was also very informative, he gave us a few quick points of history about the city as we walked, and also had a very long talk with my friend who was interested in the churches of the city. The tour definitely doesn’t have a history focus but you do get the sparknotes. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants a small taste of Belgian cuisine!

It was great a lovely way to try some of the key foodie items without having to commit to a full waffle and to get some history and background to go with the snacks. Really would recommend!

Kasia was super friendly and knowledgeable! First stop was fries with Flemish Stew (they’re also very accommodating with a vegetarian/non pork version). Would call the portion more than a tasting but less than a meal. Next were the chocolate dragons, we had the option of either milk chocolate with hazelnut filling or dark chocolate with raspberry filling (we liked the hazelnut more than the raspberry). After that was the underrated gent mustard. It was spicy but in a wasabi way vs pepper. Last food stop was a small shop that gave us a chunk of liege waffles and a gent nose candy. Kasia left us at a local bar with a tasting of three different kinds of beer; raspberry, brown, and blonde. It is a free tour but they work on commission and a recommended “tip” is 10€. The cobblestone streets and steps into shops are not very handicap friendly. But, there was someone on the tour in a wheelchair and they made it to all the stops. Kasia was as accommodating as she could be. Overall we would recommend. It was a very nice introduction to Ghent!
