Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum
Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park (平和記念公園, Heiwa Kinen Kōen) is one of the most prominent features of the city. Even visitors not looking for it will likely stumble upon the large park of over 120,000 square meters. Its trees, lawns, and walking paths are in stark contrast to the surrounding downtown area. Before the bomb, the area of what is now the Peace Park was the political and commercial heart of the city. For this reason, it was chosen as the pilot's target. Four years to the day after the bomb was dropped, it was decided that the area would not be redeveloped but instead devoted to peace memorial facilities. Admission Fee: ¥200

We had an amazing day with To. He was very knowledgeable and made sure we hit all the key spots as it was our first time in Hiroshima. It was a hassle free day as To guided us through all transportation. He even told us the best spot on the ferry to get the best view of the Tori gate! A highlight of the trip was To brought fish food so we could feed the fish and turtles at the garden. We stopped at lunch for local okonomiyaki which was delicious. We had a fantastic time and recommend this trip for anyone looking to explore the city at your own pace.

We met our guide TO in Hiroshima train station and we headed for the Peace Park. It was a very rainy day with umbrellas to manage as well as cameras, TO was helpful and took us the quicker route to stay as dry as possible. He explained about the iconic prefecture building left standing after the blast, took us to the epicentre memorial stone, which could be easily missed as it was on a side street. He related the story of the doctor and his clinic. We saw the children’s peace memorial and heard the story of little girl and the origami cranes. Only my brother and I visited the museum, it was deeply moving and a reminder that such atrocities should never happen again. Its impact will stay with me. After lunch, we made our way to Miyajima island and saw the beautiful floating tori gate. Visited the shrine and walked the shopping street. I couldn’t make it up the steep hill to the Buddhist temple but my family did and showed us photos of the 500 red capped statues on route. TO was a wonderful guide, his local knowledge, experience and enthusiasm enhanced our day trip. His lunch suggestion was superb the tasty local noodle baked pancakes delicious, we thoroughly enjoyed his company. We recommend this tour.

The islands and floating Tori gate are absolutely stunning and a must-see. The little town on the island is packed with many shops and restaurants; I wish we had stayed overnight. As a US citizen, Peace Memorial Park, the museum, and the A-bomb dome were quite difficult to visit. Yet still incredibly important to see. We were fortunate to see schoolchildren singing the song of 1000 cranes to the statue of a little girl who died 9 years after the bombing. There is a new meaning now when I see a paper crane.

Our family (kids of 18 and 12) thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our guide, Yoko, was amazing. She communicated with us ahead of the trip and customized the agenda around our travel accommodations and preferences, making everything easy for us. Miyajima is a must-see for anyone visiting the area. Stunning natural beauty and fantastic temples with unique features. The Hiroshima Museum, Peace Park, and Peace Memorial was a somber experience but something we will never forget. The Museum focuses on showing the impact of the bomb on the people and city of Hiroshima. It provides a human face to the bombing that will stay with us forever.

Taking a one-day trip from Osaka to Hiroshima and Itsukushima Island is an ambitious itinerary, but Hiroshi made the entire day feel seamless, unhurried, and incredibly meaningful. These iconic locations can draw immense crowds, and Hiroshi navigated the crowd sizes masterfully, timing our movements perfectly so we could absorb the surroundings and their history. This tour was a profound highlight of our time in Hiroshima, entirely because of our guide's deep roots in the region and his genuine connection to its history and community. On Itsukushima Island, Hiroshi introduced us to the heart of the island through the wonderful people who live and work there. Meeting the local families and artisans—including the lovely people at a beautiful brooch shop and a welcoming matcha cafe—felt like being introduced to fellow neighbours. Their warmth and hospitality gave us a true sense of the living community on the island. When we visited the Hiroshima Memorial complex, our guide's perspective brought an incredible weight, dignity, and quiet reverence to the experience. He navigated the heavy history with immense sensitivity, focusing on the human element of the past without ever making the space feel performative. It was a privilege to learn about this history from someone with such a profound, respectful understanding of the region. This tour is absolutely perfect for travellers who want to understand Japan beyond the major tourist tracks and learn about the culture on a much deeper level than what is written in standard guidebooks.

We had a lovely day in Miyajima and Hiroshima with Akie. The tour started from our hotel and we moved on foot and by public transport. The guide suggested interesting places and we were able to influence the course of the day ourselves. We only had one full day in Hiroshima, so booking a private tour was definitely worth it to see the main attractions efficiently but without stress and to experience a little extra.

Our private tour of Miyajima and Hiroshima was one of the absolute highlights of our trip to Japan. Mai brought Miyajima’s history, culture, and significance to life in a way that would have been impossible to experience on our own. We especially appreciated being shown some quieter spots away from the crowds. In Hiroshima Mai provided thoughtful and detailed historical context and helped us better understand the city’s remarkable story of tragedy, resilience, and renewal. The Peace Memorial Park and Museum were incredibly powerful experiences, and having an expert guide who is from the city made the visit even more meaningful. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Japan. It was an unforgettable day that combined stunning scenery, fascinating history, and exceptional guiding. Thank you, Mai, for helping create such wonderful memories.
